IT IS NEW AND NOT NATIONAL

In Ghana today, election 2008 and the activities of political parties geared towards the D-day ie December 07,2008 have taken the better part of media reportage from January 2008 to date. A notable element of this year's party politics is the drifting of political gurus from one political party to the another and also the formation of new political parties mostly from the factions of existing parties all targeting ' Kufuor's seat' at the castle. Owing to the above, it is imperative for media houses to give and or maintain correct names, titles and the right descriptions of politicians and their respective political affiliations. Mr. editor , I therefore took a quick notice of your news item with the caption ' Alima Mahama retained for Nalerigu constituency' in your Monday April 28, 2008 issue of the Daily Graphic. The lead of the story in question wrote _ The Minister of Women's and Children's Affairs , Hajia Alima Mahama , has been retained as the N

INDISCIPLINE AT YUSI DAM - NAVRONGO

Located somewhere in Navrongo Central near Basina Primary School, the Yusi dam is a multipurpose water body used by the inhabitants of the Kassena- Nankana District. The dam, according to Navro Pio's representative, Arthur Balinia, covers a total of about six hectors of land. The people of Navrongo especially those living near the dam use the water for diverse purposes. Some fetch water from the dam to mold bricks and blocks for construction works whilst others use it to water their plants. Whilst the dam is the only available source of water to live-stock within Navrongo central, a considerable number of people also do their laundry on the banks of the dam. Yusi also serves as a source of entertainment as many youth go there to swim at their leisure time. No wonder then that, the dam has motivated a lot of people to acquire plots of land for building at the Yusi area. This nearness of the dam, people say will cut the cost of having to buy water for the purpose of building. Unfortu

EMD Celebrates Ghana’s 51st Anniversary | Ghana Official Portal

The 51 st anniversary celebration of Ghana ’s independence has been marked at Gambaga in the Northern region with a call on residents especially the youth to desist from high alcohol consumption. The Mamprusi East DCE, Mr. Peter Baga Wuni who made the call said alcohol consumption at uncontrollable levels causes irreparable damage to the human system. It also negatively affects the individual’s work output. Touching on the theme for this year’s anniversary, “Ghana at 50: Looking into the future with hope”, the DCE noted that our forefathers and leaders were full of hope when they sacrificed their lives to salvage Ghana from the colonialists. He said they saw themselves as Ghanaians belonging to one country and not in line of ethnic groupings. This, he said, was why the independence struggle had contributions of all kinds from the various regions of the country. Mr. Wuni said today’s generations must work hard to improve upon the development drive and also remain united avoiding issues

Culture And Chieftaincy Minister Calls On Nayiri | Ghana Official Portal

The Culture and Chieftaincy Minister Sampson Kwaku Boafo has paid a courtesy call on the overlord of the Mamprugu traditional area, Nayiri Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai at his palace at Nalerigu. The courtesy call marked the Minister’s maiden visit to the Mamnprugu kingdom in Northern Region since his assumption of office. Nayiri Naa Bohagu in a welcome address read on his behalf noted that the chieftaincy institution plays very vital roles in the realisation of the country’s development agenda. He said chiefs occupy a unique position in their respective traditional areas which enables them to perform administrative, quasi judicial and social functions for the benefit of their societies. This realisation complement the functions of district assemblies and the central government. The king said chiefs can play more active roles in local governance when given the opportunity and necessary resources. He therefore asked for an increment in the percentage of traditional representation in the del

Thumbs Up To Government's Cic Project But.......... | Ghana Official Portal

Feature By _ Peter Atogewe Wedam Journalist with the Information Services Dept No one, especially among the literate folks in Ghana today can deny the fact that Information and Communication Technology, ICT has become part and parcel of daily transactions between individuals, orgnisations, ministries, departments, agencies and even between nations. This writer like many other Ghanaians was therefore extremely happy when in 2003, the government of Ghana finalised deliberations on a comprehensive ICT policy for the country. The policy was first started by the erstwhile NDC regime as I learnt from an article written by Mawutodzi K. Abissath of the IT unit of the Information Services Department. The ICT policy which was spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications sought to extend communication services including telephoning, fax and internet connectivity to our colleague citizens in the very rural portions of the country. This is to be done through the building and furnis

NASS NEEDS URGENT ASSISTANCE

JULY 14, 2008 Report By_ Peter Atogewe Wedam, Journalist As there are various scholarship schemes for brilliant but needy students across the country, so should there be urgent assistance for academically sound schools that are situated in the rural parts of Ghana. One such school is the Nalerigu Senior High School affectionately referred to as NASS. The school is located in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region. The NASS though being tagged as a model school in the district has not seen any meaningful face lift as compared to its sister model schools in other districts. According to the headmaster of NASS, Mr. S.B. Awari, the school has performed well academically over the past few years in the face of limited and or lack of modern teaching and learning logistics. The headmaster in an interview with the Information Services Department anticipated an excellent performance from the 2008 batch of students he presented for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examinat
