MTN IS NOT TAKING US EVERYWHERE WE GO

MTN IS NOT TAKING US EVERYWHERE WE GO I have heard on radio and from friends and also read from the newspapers especially Daily Graphic about how MTN, a mobile service operator has been disappointing its customers within the last few weeks in the areas of prompt connectivity, the MTN zone and other stuffs. About the MTN’s free night calls facility, the least said about it the better. I am a journalist with the Information Services Department in the East Mamprusi district, Gambaga and a sensitive customer of MTN. I can confidently report without doubt that MTN’s network in this district has almost been off from the first week of November to date and it seems nothing is being done about it. We people in Gambaga and other villages of East Mamprusi can hardly make and or receive calls to or from other networks. In some cases, many youths operating the MTN unit transfer business called on my office to do a story telling the world how MTN has taken them for a ride. Why? Because they invest

ON THE MARCH FOR A PEACEFUL ELECTION 2008

ON THE MARCH FOR A PEACEFUL ELECTION 2008 BY: PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-EAST MAMPRUSI DIST. GAMBAGA November 25, 2008 As minutes, hours, days and weeks run out for the December 07, 2008 general elections, various civil society groups and the national security apparatus are doing all within their powers and resources to ensure that the 2008 elections are held devoid of violence and anarchy throughout the country. The main objective of the task force is to meet and hold discussions with opinion leaders including assembly persons, traditional heads, religious bodies and political party representatives with the view to identifying flashpoints and concerns that are likely to compromise peace and order during the elections and aftermath. The East Mamprusi District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Jose Sanze who is the chairman of the task force reminded citizens at o

NO GHANA TELEVISION [GTV] SIGNALS IN EAST MAMPRUSI BY: PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM NOVEMBER 18, 2008 journalist - ISD, Gambaga Citizens in the East Mamprusi district, EMD of the Northern region have not been able to receive GTV signals from the last week of October, 2008 to November, 2008.It will be recalled that the first presidential debate organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs was broadcast live on GTV but people in this district could not view the programme as a result of fluctuations or total blackout on GTV’s network which is the only network available to people in Gambaga, Nalerigu and elsewhere in the district. Also, UNIQUE FM’s [GBC’s station] signals have been off air within the same period. This FM which now broadcasts nationwide is the main source of news in the people of the district. This thus implies that people here have at least lost track of the country’s current affairs since October 29, 2008 to date. As if by coincidence, the s

24TH FARMERS DAY HELD AT WUNDUA

Image
A Female Hardworking Farmer receiving her award A policy change by government especially on rice importation could help promote mass rice production in this era of escalating food prices. This will adequately feed the country’s population and at the same time put more money in the pockets of the Ghanaian farmer as some excess produce could be exported to earn foreign exchange. The East Mamprusi District Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture [MOFA], Mr. George Gyimah Asare made this observation in a speech to mark the 24th farmers’ day celebration held at Wundua in the Northern region. Mr. Gyimah Asare noted that Ghana’s continuous dependence on rice importation and food aid will only disrupt and further threaten the country’s food security. On the theme for the occasion “Globalisation- its effects on agricultural production in Ghana”, the director said globalisation has brought in its wake the dumping of cheap agricultural products on the Ghanaian market and this adversely a
