SCHOOL BLOCK FOR BUMBOAZIO May 27, 2009 BY: Peter Atogewe Wedam, ISD – Gambaga A new school block comprising an office, a store, a main learning hall, pavilion and places of convenience has been inaugurated at Bumboazio in the East Mamprusi district of the Northern region. The school, christened La’angum primary was built by Partnership for Mother-tongue based Bilingual Education in Ghana, Pambe Ghana , a nongovernmental organisation at the cost of GH¢22,072.78. Pambe Ghana is registered in both the United States and in Ghana and is also on line at www.pambeghana.org. The Executive Director of Pambe Ghana, Mrs. Alice Iddi Gubbels stated at the inauguration that a lot of factors including the community’s enthusiasm, ready land and communal labour went into choosing Bumboazio community to develop a model of mother tongue bilingual education. GAMBAGA WITCHES ‘CAMP GETS ASSISTANCE

BY: PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD, Gambaga May 26, 2009 A young American Peace Corp, Miss Carolyn Abdenour stationed at Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi district of the Northern region has offered training on soap making and modern techniques in charcoal production to inmates of the Gambaga Witches’ Camp [GWC]. Miss Abdenour whose speciality is small enterprises development said the whole training programme cost GH¢ 2,268.40. She also collaborated with the Rural Enterprises Project in the district to make the training possible. The peace corp disclosed that having acquainted herself with the conditions of living of the inmates, she liaised with the United States Agency for International Development, USAID and was able to come up with the money. RAIN STORM HITS NALERIGU-SAKOGU

RAIN STORM HITS NALERIGU-SAKOGU News Report By – Peter A. Wedam MAY 15, 2009 A severe rain-storm that hit some major towns in the East Mamprusi District on May 14 2009 has destroyed property worth several thousands of Ghana Cedis. Various landed property including both private and state- owned structures were destroyed in the wake of the storm. In Nalerigu for instance, a market complex yet to be occupied has its roofs blown off. A warehouse belonging to the former DCE and a beauty saloon were also damaged in the same rain storm. In Sakogu, another affected town, 60 private houses were destroyed. In this same town, an European Union, EU school block and a church building had their walls and roofs damaged. However, there were no records of personal injuries and lost of lives in the storm except for only one recorded case of injury at Sakogu. CHRAJ RECORDS FEW CASES BY: PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM MAY 15, 2009 ISD, GAMBAGA The East Mamprusi district office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, CHRAJ recorded only 13 cases in the whole of 2008. The cases included domestic violence, paternity complains and child maintenance. The district director of CHRAJ, Mr. Sulley Sawyer Salifu who disclosed this to the information services department in an interview at Gambaga indicated that paternity complains and domestic violence dominated in the total of cases received. The director said the few cases received could either be attributed to the fact that education has gone down well with the people or that they are using alternative methods to resolve their human rights problems. Mr. Sulley said of the 13 cases, his office was able to resolve 10, transferred two to a family tribunal at Nalerigu and the domestic violence and victim support unit of the Ghana Police service respectively whilst one is p
