SOLAR IS BEST SAYS AGSI November 19, 2009 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Association of Ghana Solar Industries [AGSI] has organised a stakeholders’ workshop in Bolgatanga for the media and representatives of decentralised departments including the Ghana Education Service, district assemblies and the Ghana Health Service. The workshop which was funded by the business advocacy fund [BUSAC Fund] aimed at lobbying policy makers such as heads of department, non-governmental organisations and the district assemblies to accept the installation and use of solar panel systems in their premises as the cheapest and most cost-effective means of power. ISD SELLS GOV’T POLICIES BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM 18/11/2009 ISD- BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Information Services Department [ISD] in the Upper East region has begun a seven-day public education campaign on government policies and programmes. The seven-day campaign will cover all the nine districts and municipal assemblies in the region. Topics to be treated include the enhanced Capitation Grant, the National Youth Employment Programme and the Ghana School Feeding Programme. Peace, unity and National cohesion plus activities of the various assemblies will also be disseminated to the public. Briefing field officers at the launch of the campaign, the Upper East Regional Information Officer, Mr. Nelson Mba Ayamga advised his officers against playing politics with issues of national interest. He also urged them not to argue with members of the public saying this may portray the ISD in a negative light. Mr. Ayamga advised his officers to work in unity and coordination

NO H1N1 IN MY MUNICIPALITY, MCE

BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL 17/11/2009 The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive [MCE], Honourable Epsona Harry Ayamga has stated that there has not been any recorded case of the H1N1 flu in the municipality since the first case was recorded in Accra about five months ago. Kontoh [left] exchanging pleasantries with the Bolgatanga MCE, Epsona Harry Ayamga [right] Honourable Ayamga made this statement when the senior command, staff and students of course 31 of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College called on him as a part of an environmental study tour of the Upper East region. He said the municipal health directorate has given him the assurance that adequate measures have been put in place to handle any case that may eventually come up. CNC DIRECTORS AND ACCOUNTANTS MEET IN BOLGATANGA BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM November 13, 2009 ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL All ten regional directors, of the Centre for National Culture [CNC] and their respective accountants and district directors of the CNC have converged in the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga for a three-day conference aimed at harnessing efforts and sharing ideas regarding Ghana’s cultural sector. Participants will also chart the way forward for recognition and appreciation of the important role the CNC plays in developing the country’s arts and culture. The Upper East Regional Director of the CNC, Naa Luciano M. Tungbani in an address to welcome his colleagues, noted that the region is now recognised worldwide as the genuine home of the popular straw baskets and hats, assorted leather works and other hand-made artifacts. BF, UPPER EAST DEEPEN FRIENDSHIP BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL NOVEMBER 11, 2009 The Upper East Region of Ghana and the Central South Region of Burkina Faso [BF] have agreed to promote the learning of French and English through school exchange programmes such as swapping of teachers and linking up of schools in the two regions through regular correspondence. GSFP HOLDS SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL 09/11/2009 A major challenge that has confronted the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) since its inception in October 2005 is lack of information for key stakeholders regarding their roles and responsibilities and how they relate to one another. The Upper East Regional Minister, Honourable Mark Owen Woyongo made this observation in a speech read for him by the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Mrs. Lucy Awuni at Bolgatanga to open a sensitisation workshop on the GSFP. Hon. Woyongo noted that many key stakeholders including municipal and district assemblies, education and health officers and communities have not been involved in decision making and this has adversely affected the smooth operation of the GSFP. UPPER EAST ATTENDS DECENTRALISATION FORUM BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD – BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL November 05, 2009 Citizens have been called upon to constantly demand their rights from public office holders since this will regularly remind government of its responsibilities and also keep public officers in check. The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Honourable Joseph Yieleh Chireh made this call at Bolgatanga during a consultation forum organized by the Upper East Regional Co-ordinating Council on Ghana’s decentralisation system. Honourable Yieleh Chireh noted that there have been calls for government to contract experts on decentralisation to review Ghana’s decentralised system of government, but government decided to consult with the ordinary citizens because they feel the actual impacts of government’s decisions.
