GHANA'S MUST BE A BLESSING Feb. 23, 2010 The Deputy Upper East regional minister, Madam Lucy Awuni has disclosed that the government has put in place necessary measures to ensure that Ghana does not toe the line of those oil-rich countries whose oil resource has caused conflicts instead of solving their development and socio-economic problems. She was speaking at a consultative forum in Bolgatanga on the use of Ghana's oil revenue. Madam Awuni noted that since Ghana struck oil in commercial quantities in 2007, there have been various suggestions from individuals, groups, state agencies and non-governmental organisations as to how to manage and use Ghana’s oil money. She thus commended the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and other stakeholders for constituting a team of experts to consult with the public to fashion out the best possible ways of managing and using the expected revenue from

The minister was speaking at the Upper East regional launch of the Information Communication Technology [ICT] module of the National Youth Employment Programme [NYEP]. Mr. Woyongo who launched the ICT module of the NYEP under the theme “Employment for the youth- towards a better Ghana” said the National Democratic Congress [NDC] government is investing in the youth through the creation of sustainable opportunities that will be beneficial to them and also fill them with the sense of belonging to the better Ghana agenda. Kaburise assumed office as Vice Chancellor in April 2008. The Vice President who made the observation in tribute to the late professor at a funeral mass held in the Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Catholic Basilica in Navrongo, said the professor’s sterling leadership qualities strategically positioned the UDS and led it to its present state. 1ST CONGREGATION CHURNS OUT 926 TEACHERS 13/02/10 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Principal of St. Bosco’s College of Education in Navrongo, Mr. Alfred Ndago has stated that the college is increasingly conscious of the need to equip teacher trainees with appropriate skills to enable them function effectively in their various schools. The Principal made the statement in a speech during the college’s first congregation since it was given the mandate to run a Diploma in Basic Education Programme in 2004 by the National Accreditations Board. A total of 926 students comprising 654 fulltime students and 272 serving teachers under a Sandwich programme graduated after successfully passing prescribed exams. SOLAR POWER FOR DONINGA HEALTH COMPOUND 12/02/10 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD- BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY A solar system valued at 15,200.00 American Dollars has been installed and commissioned for use by the Doninga Health Centre in the Builsa district of the Upper East Region. The solar system comprised vaccine refrigerators, compound lighting and indoor lighting systems. The Minister for Energy, Dr. Joe Oteng-Adjei who commissioned the project said it marked the completion of similar solar systems installed in 74 other health facilities in remote communities in 20 districts within the Upper East, Upper West, Northern and Brong-Ahafo regions. SOLVING THE BAWKU CONFLICT, TRUST ESSENTIAL PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL 12/02/10 Trust and confidence building are essential ingredients in finding lasting solutions to the protracted Bawku conflict between the Mamprusis and Kusasis. The Upper East regional minister, Honourable Mark Owen Woyongo made this observation during a special Friday Muslim prayer session held at the residency for peace in Bawku. The regional minister further observed that the warring factions have over the years lost trust and confidence in the security agencies, the law courts and the Attorney General to impartially handle cases involving perpetrators of mayhem in the Bawku Municipality and its environs. According to Honourable Woyongo, everything must be done to restore trust and confidence in the system if lasting peace is to retu
