ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Upper East regional minister, Honourable Mark Owen Woyongo has stated that government is committed to improving the educational infrastructure in the country through the provision of lecture halls and classrooms, dormitories, modern libraries equipped with computers among others. This is based on the premise that, education improves the productive capacities of individuals and societies. Honourable Woyongo made the statement in an address to commission a newly constructed 12-unit classroom block at the Bawku Senior High School in the Bawku municipality. ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL A total of 289 students comprising 79 females and 210 males have matriculated at the St. John Boscos College of Education in Navrongo in the Upper East region. The 289 teacher trainees were among a total of 750 applications that were received by the college. The matriculation ceremony certifies the admission of these freshers into the 2010/2011 academic year to pursue a three-year Diploma in Basic Education programme. The Principal of the St. John Boscos College of Education, Mr. Alfred Abugre Ndago in his address to the matriculants noted that every academic year, there have been instances of a backlog of candidates who fail to secure admission into the college as a result of high numbers of applicants which the school’s quota

ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL A former minister of state, Mr. Kwamena Ahwoi has delivered an extensive lecture on decentralisation and local governance to a cross section of public and civil servants and members of the general public at Bolgatanga in the Upper East region. The lecture had the topic: “One step forward, the significance of LI 1961 in MMDAs capacity building”. Mr. Ahwoi said under section 161 [1] of the Local Government Act, 1993, Act 462, a total of 22 decentralised departments at the district level are to cease to exist in their present form. These will then be reconstituted through a series of mergers under Section 38 of the Act, into 16 departments in the Metropolitan Assemblies, 13 in the Municipal Assemblies and 11 in the District Assemblies.
