FIRST LADY LAUNCHES CARMMA PROGRAMME IN UPPER EAST November 08, 2011 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD - BOLGATANGA The First Lady of Ghana, Dr. Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills has launched the Campaign for Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa, [CARMMA] at Bolgatanga in the Upper East region. The launch marks the beginning of an advocacy process with district and municipal assemblies in the region to join hands with the Ghana Health Service in eradicating pregnancy related deaths. The CARMMA strategy will also hasten the achievement of Millennium Development Goal five which bothers on maternal mortality. FIBRE INTERCONNECTIVITY PROJECT COMMISSIONED November 1, 2011 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL A Deputy Minister of Communication, Honourable Ernest Attuquaye Armah has cut sod in Bolgatanga for the commencement of an interconnectivity fibre cable project that will be laid from Bolgatanga in the Upper East region to Sankase in the Northern part of the Republic of Togo. This follows a ministerial declaration in May 2009 between Ghana’s communications minister, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu and his Burkina Faso counterpart, Honourable Noel Kabore on the need for these countries to interconnect to enhance telephony and interconnectivity in the subregion. Hon. COUNCIL OF STATE CALLS ON RM October 28, 2011 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Upper East Regional Health directorate has allayed fears of members of Council of State and the general public of the spread of Poliomyelitis (Polio) and high rates of maternal mortalities in the region. A Deputy Director of Administration of Ghana Health Service (GHS), Mr .Lucio Dery gave the assurance when reacting to some health concerns raised by Council of State Chairman, Professor Kofi Awoonor when the chairman led members of the council to interact with the Upper East regional minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo and regional heads of department. The council was in the region for a two day working tour as part of its nationwide outreach programme. Mr. Derry said through a weekly based monitoring system, routine immunisations of children and continuous education embarked on, the region has been on top health issues.
