POOR BECE PERFORMANCE IS UNACCEPTABLE Sept. 27, 2011 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD – BOLGATANGA The Deputy Upper East regional minister, Mrs. Lucy Awuni has expressed her disappointment at the abysmal series of performances in the Basic Education Certificate Examination [BECE] by Junior High Schools in the Upper East region for the past years. She said the trend has become so disturbing that there is the need for effective investigation into possible reasons for the declining standards in education in the region. While citing perpetual lateness, habitual absenteeism and irresponsible use of instructional hours on the part of some teachers as a contributory factor to falling standards in education, the Deputy Minister appealed to the media to devote more time and attention to uncover elements that are responsible for the deplorable performance of children in both internal and external exams. MMDCEs MUST STUDY PUBLIC PROCUREMENT, FINANCIAL MEMORANDA August 30, 2011 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee [PAC] of parliament Hon. Albert Kan-Dapaah, has urged all Municipal, Metropolitan and District Chief Executives [MMDCEs] to study and grasp Ghana’s prescribed public sector accounting systems and the financial memoranda of state. They should also be educated on public procurement and the need for due diligence in receiving and usage of public resources. The PAC Chairman was delivering his closing remarks at Bolgatanga after the committee reviewed the Auditor General’s report on 31 municipal, metropolitan and district assemblies from the Upper East, Upper west and Northern regions. GOVERNMENT WILL DEVELOP YOUTH August 25, 2011 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Upper East regional minister, Mr. Mark Owen Woyongo has told a gathering of youth from across the region that government has resolved to develop the country’s youth by building their capacities and capabilities to take up the administration of the country when the present generation becomes weak and cannot work. He observed that as contained in the manifesto of President Mills’ campaign in the 2008 elections, the youth has been placed at the centre of government affairs.
