Ghanaians have been called upon to reflect on the selfless efforts of the Country’s fore runners who fought and liberated Ghana from colonial bondage and subsequently think of what to do in their own individual ways to impact positively on the country’s growth.

The East Mamprusi District Coordinating Director, Mr. Ivan Zinebom Gam made the call in a speech at Gambaga in the Northern Region to mark the 52nd celebration of Ghana’s independence. He noted that, the independence of Ghana was attained with some measure of difficulties. Many fought the white oppressors and some lost their lives in the process.

Mr. Gam said, Ghanaians must therefore remain committed and dedicated to whatever duties that are given them at all times so that the gains made over the years are not lost but rather receive more boost. People ought to manage time well by avoiding lateness to work and functions.

The coordinating director observed that Ghana has numerous natural and human resources which when effectively harnessed will propel the country into a middle income one. This he said can be achieved if Ghanaians see themselves as one people and eschew destructive tendencies.

He noted that sanitation is at great concern to government as filth brings about outbreak of several diseases. In this light, the president Professor John Evans Atta Mills has rolled out the clean Ghana campaign in support of which the East Mamprusi District Assembly carried out massive clean-up activities at Nalerigu, Gambaga and Langbinsi to rid the district of filth.

Turning to education, Mr. Gam noted that education is central in development of every nation that is why government has announced a 50% increment in the capitation grant to ensure that greater number of children are enrolled and retained in schools till they complete. He added that free school uniforms and exercise books would be distributed to pupils in deprived communities.

He gave the assurance that he district assembly will ensure availability of teaching and learning materials and urged parents to put the children in school.

The headmaster of Nalerigu Senior High School, Mr. S. B. Awari who chaired the function asked citizens to live up to civic responsibilities and pay taxes and other levies regularly to enable government execute development projects.

S. B. Awari also advised parents to see the welfare of their children, monitor the type of friends they keep and equally visit their schools to learn how their wards are performing at school.

A total of 34 groups comprising basic, junior, and senior high schools and civic society organizations took part in the march past.
Inspector Amo of the Gambaga Police earlier assisted the coordinating director, Mr. Ivan Zinebom Gam to inspect the parade.
