HE WAS MY CONFIDANTE – UE REGIONAL MIN.’S FOND MEMORIES OF HON. C.K. TEDAM 26th April, 2019
Ghanaians woke up to the sad news of the passing of Mr. Clement Kubindiwor Tedam in the wee hours of Friday, 26th April, 2019. The late Hon. C.K Tedam, as he was affectionately called by family and close associates, was born in 1925 in Nandom in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

Late C.K Tedam was a Royal from the
Paga Paramountcy in the Upper East Region of Ghana, he was a teacher by
training and became a politician much later due to his passion to influence
decision making that could inure to the benefit of his people both locally and
nationally. He subsequently won elections for the very first time in 1954 as an
Independent Candidate. He was a founding member of the Northern People’s Party
in the politics of the then Gold Coast. Thereafter, Mr. Tedam won elections
again in 1956 on the ticket of this party he had helped to establish.
Following his demise therefore, many
Ghanaians have begun mourning the late statesman and telling the world, their
personal encounters with late C.K Tedam and the beautiful memories they still
hold of him.
Upper East Regional Minister, Hon.
Paulina Patience Abayage is one person who had been very close with the late
C.K Tedam both in her personal life and in her life as a politician. Having been shocked on hearing the sad news,
she issued a press release later last Friday describing the late
well-experienced politician as her confidante.
In that press release that was
circulated to media houses across the Upper East Region, Madam Abayage
remarked; “I must confess, he was my confidante”. She further noted that, the
late C.K Tedam was a loving-father, a great teacher and an outstanding politician
who served his country well in humility, dedication and commitment. For
instance, he was one time Ghana’s Local Government Minister during the Supreme
Military Council Regime meanwhile, he held other high-profile national
positions among others in his party, the New Patriotic Party [NPP].
According to Hon. Abayage, Ghana
and the Upper East Region in particular, had lost an illustrious son who is irreplaceable.
She observed that the late Tedam had some peculiar attributes that were worth
emulating; he was a peace-loving man, was very honest, modest and yet, bold.
The late Tedam, who was also a
founding member of the NPP, once served as a Council of State member during the
John A. Kuffuor administration. After the 2008 general elections, he became the
Chairman for the NPP’s Council of Elders, a position he held till his demise.

The Paga Development Association as
well as his party, the NPP had severally bestowed distinguished awards on the
late C.K Tedam for his exemplary leadership, gentle disposition, devotion to
duty and commitment to the development of the Upper East, the NPP and Ghana as
a whole.
Late C.K Tedam was approximately 94
years old and left behind six children and several grandchildren.
The whole of Ghana, the Tedam
family, the Paga Traditional Council and the NPP, wish the late C.K Tedam a
good rest with the Almighty.
A date for the burial and other funeral arrangements is yet to be announced.
