Following a hint first made public by the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Chief Executive [MCE], Hon. William Aduum on 10th September, 2019, some three Junior High Schools [JHS] in the Municipality have received 30 desktop computers and their accessories including scanners, printers and Uninterrupted Power Supply [UPS] units to guard the against power surges during times of usage.

The recipient schools included the Pungyoro Junior High School, Doba Junior High School and the Gayingo JHS. Each school got 10 sets of the computers, 10 UPS units to match, a printer each, a scanner and a projector.

Hon. Aduum who led a team from the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications [GIFEC] to the beneficiary schools and witnessed the installation of the computers and the accompanying accessories last week, noted that the Information and Communication Technology [ICT] tools will greatly impact ICT teaching and learning in the beneficiary schools.

He commended GIFEC for the gesture saying the era where pupils in the schools in parts of the Municipality only saw images of computers in textbooks is gone forever as “the children can now touch and actually, use computers”. He advised both teachers and pupils against using the ICT gadgets for nefarious activities especially on the internet.

And here are the Gayingo JHS students too
While appealing to GIFEC to scale up their intervention to some additional schools in the municipality, the MCE also pledged that his Assembly through the education directorate, will ensure that the ICT tools were strictly used for the intended purpose.

According to the MCE, his assembly gave particular attention the schools that ended up as beneficiaries as lots of works, quality time and resources were devoted to getting the schools in readiness for the package. He revealed that GIFEC had set some requirements that had to be in place before a school could benefit. For instance, a school had to be connected to the national electricity grid and it had to have specially designed computers tables and chairs to match.

Hon. Aduum was happy that, his officers lived up to expectation and thus, the eventual arrival and installation of the computers at the selected schools.

Meanwhile, members of the GIFEC cautioned against the mishandling of the machines stressing that such acts will only lead to regular breakdowns and damage of the equipment which cost a lot of hard cash to procure. They called for a property security for the ICT laboratories to guard against theft by unscrupulous person in the community.
