Hon. Ayamga gave the indication in his keynote address this
Friday to mark the 35th National Farmers’ Day event held in Namoo, a
surburb of the Bongo District. The year’s event was themed “Enhancing Small
Scale Agricultutre Towards Agribusiness Development”. He gave the assurance that a warehouse being
constructed under 1-District 1-Warehouse policy in the Bogrigo community, would
be completed and handed over for use within the first quarter of 2020 as the
current works on the facility had reached 90 completion rate.
According to him government’s flagship farming intervention –
the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme had increased food production in
district and that, the warehouse project was a very timely one. He added that
the Rearing for Food and Jobs Programme which was recently launched, had
already benefited some 102 farmers in the district while a scale up was planned
for year 2020.
He additionally disclosed that several thousands of Ghanaian
youth had been recruited, trained and deployed as agric extension agents of
which, Bongo got 37 who have been providing expertise to farmers across the
district on new farm technologies and other agric related services and advice.

Hon. Ayinbisa also revealed that under the 1-District
1-Factory initiative by government, a shea nut processing factory had been
identified as the most viable for the Bongo District and was to be cited in the
Bogrigo community. He recalled that just last month, consultants to the project visited
the area to obtain final data required to fine-tune the design of the factory.
Meanwhile the Business Advisory Centre and the Rural Enterprise Programme were
also coordinating to finalise documentations regarding the project. He hinted that some 50 local people will own
the factory on its completion as shareholders while it is expected to create
over 200 direct and indirect jobs within and around the location of the
factory.
The DCE also used the occasion to appeal to people to
participate fully in the upcoming District Level Elections and to elect persons
who were effective and had the welfare of their communities at heart. He noted that
it was regrettable that the Referendum was called off and hoped it would return
very soon after a much broader consultation with all who mattered.
Bongo District for the Department of Agriculture Mr. Edgar
Dra in his welcome address earlier, described the work of farmers as very
critical to human existence stressing that “if our farmers stop farming, life
will become unbearable for all of us”. He commended farmers in the district for
adhering to technical advice from his officers noting that, those who did, had
realised dramatic rise in their yields over the period.
