BONGO D.A HANDS OVER PROJECT SITES UNDER 1-MILLION DOLLAR PER CONSTITUENCY 20th April, 2020
Authorities
of the Bongo District Assembly in the Upper East Region have handed over five
project sites among many others, to contractors for execution under the
government’s flagship development policy known as the 1-Million US Dollars Per
Constituency. Funds under this policy are transferred by the Ministry for
Special Development Initiatives to the Northern Development Authority [NDA],
for payments to contractors carefully selected for demand-driven projects
across districts in the five northern-most regions of Ghana.

The
Adaboya D/A Primary school’s dilapidated teachers’ quarters is one of the sites
handed over Monday morning during which, the District Chief Executive [DCE]
Hon. Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga disclosed that, it was to receive major renovation
works to the tune of 400,000.00 Ghana Cedis. The quarters located right
opposite the school, is a four-apartment facility with the capacity to
accommodate about eight teachers but is at present in shambles with its roofs
blown away, no doors and window fittings and no electricity and water
connection.
Hon.
Ayamga, charged the contractor to expedite action on the project which he
described as very vital to boosting academic work at the school and noted that upon
its completion in a maximum of six months, by which time schools would have
reopened, the project would solve the accommodation problems facing teachers.
He also pledged that a reliable water source would be installed at the quarters
and electricity also connected to make life comfortable for the teachers.
Adaboya
elders, opinion leaders and their chief who all congregated to witness the
handing over and for the contractor to be introduced to them, commended
government and the Assembly for selecting a project in their community and
pledged their support for the speedy completion of the renovation works.

The
DCE and his team comprising Upper East Regional Coordinator of the NDA, the
Assembly’s technical staff and the consultant to the NDA’s projects in the
region, then set off to the Ayopia community where site for a non-mechanised
borehole valued at 30,000.00 Ghana Cedis was also handed over to a contractor.
Here Mr. Ayamga revealed that, a total of 32 such boreholes were earmarked for
beneficiary communities across the district all under the same 1-Million US
Dollar per Constituency policy of government. Meanwhile, District Works Engineer Mr. David
Aruk stated that a seven-member water management team would be established for
each of the boreholes to ensure their regular maintenance and longevity.
The
district’s health sector equally got a fair share of the projects as the site
for a two-bedroom semi-detached nurses’ quarters was handed over to yet another
contractor. The cost for this project to be constructed at the Bongo District
Hospital, is pegged at 263,000.00 Ghana Cedis and scheduled to be completed
within six months. Meanwhile, residents in the Awaa community also beamed with
smiles as the DCE introduced a contractor to stakeholders at a site chosen for
the construction of a new Community Health Planning Services [CHPS] compound.
This project comes with a two-bedroom apartment for health staff plus a water
system and estimated to cost 600,000.00 Ghana Cedis.
Also
as part of the package of projects, site for a three-unit classroom block with
a contract cost of 380,000.00 for the Lungo community was handed over to a
contractor as well. The DCE at this point disclosed that, his district was set
