TEACHER DESMOND KAMPOE MAKES A DIFFERENCE, WHO FOLLOWS? 17th MARCH, 2021

A teacher of the Naaga Primary School in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of Upper East Region Mr. Desmond A. Kampoe, has donated 81 dual desks to the school following a social media campaign he launched and pursued passionately over the past few weeks. The teacher in question, is known for holding special feelings and caring for his pupils and most often, provides them assistance that your regular everyday teacher will not bother himself with.

Mr. Kampoe [Right] making the donation

At a brief ceremony to hand over the furniture, Mr. Kampoe acknowledged some two groups namely Mr. Abel Sellah & friends and the Technology Without borders group [TWC GROUP] whom he disclosed, responded to his SOS appeals and subsequently, funded the supply of 30 and 51 dual desks respectively. He also expressed gratitude to his friends he didn’t immediately name, for their efforts in transporting the furniture from Tamale to the school's premises.

The education directorate’s Circuit Supervisor in charge of Kologu-South, one Mr. Maurice received the donation on behalf of the Municipal Director of Education and was full of praises for the teacher as he stood out as “one of a kind”. Representatives of the Naaga chief and other stake holders including the school’s Parent Teacher Association as well as the School Management Committee chairman, all witnessed the donation which marked a huge relief to the children who had been lying flat on their bellies to learn during contact hours for God knows how long.

These stakeholders on behalf of the obviously elated pupils, commended the sponsors of the furniture package and expressed their well-wishes for them.

Giving a background to all that led to his intervention and the eventual donation of the furniture, Mr. Kampoe who also a rice farmer and a website developer, disclosed that since he reported at the Naaga Primary School on posting in September 2017, the issue of inadequate and or lack of furniture had been there and that immediately caught his attention. He said he had then been thinking of what to do to remedy the situation and so a time came when he did a Facebook post about him personally procuring some PPEs and distributing same for his students. In the said post, one of the pictures portrayed his pupils flat on the floor in a classroom and the viral photo unfortunately, piled some tension and heat on him that he never anticipated.

This suffering ends now!
Regardless of the backlash however, teacher Desmond Kampoe said he doesn't regret any of it after all because, “I am happy it materialized into a solution” - he remarked with satisfaction. According to him, TV3’s Mission Ghana reporters also aired a report on the precarious situation of his students and this drew the attention of persons including a son from the area, Dr. Julius Awini who is the Managing Director of Hydronomics Limited as he at the time, made a presentation of 95 dual desks and some quantities of nose masks which was done on his behalf by the assemblyman for the Naaga electoral area. It didn’t end there as the then Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Tangoba Abayage also sent in her support of an additional 20 dual desks.

So the public and readers of this news publication, will say maybe Naaga Primary was lucky to have such a teacher like Desmond A. Kampoe but the reality is, how many more schools within the Kassena-Nankana Municipality and indeed, other parts of the Upper East Region could be in a similar situation as these poor kids were faced with till their teacher told their plight to the world?
