EMD Celebrates Ghana’s 51st Anniversary | Ghana Official Portal

The 51st anniversary celebration of Ghana’s independence has been marked at Gambaga in the Northern region with a call on residents especially the youth to desist from high alcohol consumption.

The Mamprusi East DCE, Mr. Peter Baga Wuni who made the call said alcohol consumption at uncontrollable levels causes irreparable damage to the human system. It also negatively affects the individual’s work output.

Touching on the theme for this year’s anniversary, “Ghana at 50: Looking into the future with hope”, the DCE noted that our forefathers and leaders were full of hope when they sacrificed their lives to salvage Ghana from the colonialists.

He said they saw themselves as Ghanaians belonging to one country and not in line of ethnic groupings. This, he said, was why the independence struggle had contributions of all kinds from the various regions of the country.

Mr. Wuni said today’s generations must work hard to improve upon the development drive and also remain united avoiding issues that could bring about divisions amongst us. This will help us bequeath to future generations a worthy legacy.

He noted that the East Mamprusi district has remained peaceful for long time and called on the people to maintain it by being another’s keeper. He appealed to all and sundry to ensure that the 2008 general elections are carried out in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere in the Mamprugu area.

On health, the DCE revealed that records available at the health facilities show a rise in HIV/AIDS cases and advised the public against premarital sex and extra marital affairs. He also asked parents to ensure that their children sleep under treated mosquito nets in well ventilated rooms to avoid catching malaria.

He advised students to study hard in order to fit well in the current competitive and dynamic world. He said they should make judicious use of the numerous educational facilities in the district.

Mr Wuni finally said the oil find in the country will impact positively on the economic growth and development.

A total of 26 schools including the kindergarten, basic junior and senior high schools and civil society groups took part in the march past.
