The East Mamprusi District Assembly, EMDA is to vote an amount of GH ¢50,000.00 from its common fund for use by the health assistance training school which is about to start academic work soon in the district. The money, according to the DCE of the assembly, Honorable Peter Wuni represents the assembly’s contribution towards the smooth operation of the school whilst it waits for proper funding from the Ministry of Health.
Honorable Wuni who was delivering his address at the assembly’s third ordinary session for the year held at Gambaga also disclosed that the EMDA has reached a tenancy agreement with a landlord at Langbensi to procure accommodation to house police officers who will be posted to man the Langbensi police station. In this respect, the EMDA has earmarked over GH¢1,200.00 to cater for the officers accommodation over a period of five years.
The DCE disclosed that 530 low tension poles and five drums of cables were also bought from the common fund towards the expansion of the rural electrification project undertaken by the assembly within the year. Similarly, accommodation facilities for heads of department are also ongoing and these include rehabilitation of the residences for the district director of the electoral commission, that of the district information officer and the district police commander.
He noted that inflation and natural events like floods often cause the late completion of projects.
Other projects being executed by the assembly are the completion of a three-unit classroom block at Jarigitinga and the opening up of the Sakogu-Siisi road to make it more motorable.
Honorable Wuni called on assembly members with knowledge in finance to volunteer their names for the formation of a micro and small scale enterprises sub-committee as directed by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment.
The presiding member of the EMDA, Honorable Dan Kolbila in his welcome address thanked the assembly members and political party activists for working together and getting their followers to conduct themselves in a civil manner that led to peaceful elections on December 07, 2008 and hoped all will exhibit the same maturity in the run-up to the run-off presidential scheduled for December 28, 2008.
Honorable Kolbila asked assembly persons to come out with information regarding uncompleted projects so that timely and appropriate actions could be taken.
An assembly man for Sibiefong, Hon. Imoro A. Salifu appealed to the assembly to endeavour to differentiate European Union projects from those of the common fund so that beneficiary community will know exactly what is expected of them when projects come under the two areas.
