A new dam to help meet the water needs of the people of Gambaga is under construction near Zimasa at Gambaga in the East Mamprusi district. The dam covers a land area of about six acres.
The construction of the dam is a result of a compensation agreement reached between opinion leaders of the community and A&N Ghanem Limited, a contractor working on 10 kilometers of the Walewale- Gambaga road.
Whilst the dam will serve as a source of drinking water to livestock and also aid dry season farming, the District Water and Sanitation Development Board is expected to mount its water treatment machines there to increase supply of potable drinking water to households in the district.
An assemblyman for Imamfongu, Honourable Yakubu Abdulai disclosed that under the agreement the community is providing for the fueling and feeding of the contractor’s workers and the rest of the work is borne by the contractor.
Honorable Abdulai said during consultations with chiefs, several projects came up for consideration but the dam was more pressing.
The Supervising Engineer of A&N Ghanem Limited Mr. Mustafa Salifu told this reporter that but for the compensation agreement, the project would have caused the community GH ¢20,000.
