Close to 15 communities across the length and breadth of the East Mamprusi district have benefitted from diverse intervention programmes from TECHNOSERVE, an American non-governmental organistion. These interventions ranged from agric input support including provision of fertilizers, improved seeds and land preparation, and in most cases, drilling of boreholes to provide potable drinking water to needy and deprived communities.
A Programmes Advisor of TECHNOSERVE, Mr. George Bamombe in an interview with the Information Services Department at Gambaga disclosed that the NGO began its intervention projects in the district in March 2006 and will be working to provide business solutions to rural poverty over a five year period. He said 14 districts of the Northern region are among beneficiaries nationwide that are enjoying the service of TECHNOSERVE.
Mr. Bamombe revealed that major funding for all the projects undertaken in the district came from the United States Agency for International Development, USAID. He mentioned for instance Namangu which has received a shea nut processing plant, Boayini: borehole and agric input support, and Bongbini: animal traction, literacy and numeracy training as some of the many communities the have received various forms of assistance from TECHNOSERVE.
The programme advisor remarked with confidence that the NGO has changed for the better the lives of many rural dwellers adding that for instance, the provision of potable drinking water has completely saved the villagers from contracting water borne related diseases. Also, through the agric input support, many farmers have increased their yield thereby producing more to feed their families and to sell to raise incomes.
He expressed hope that the communities will take good care of the landed projects so as to ensure that their life span lasts longer.
