The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive [MCE], Honourable Epsona Harry Ayamga has stated that there has not been any recorded case of the H1N1 flu in the municipality since the first case was recorded in Accra about five months ago.

Honourable Ayamga made this statement when the senior command, staff and students of course 31 of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College called on him as a part of an environmental study tour of the Upper East region. He said the municipal health directorate has given him the assurance that adequate measures have been put in place to handle any case that may eventually come up.

The MCE told his guests that the municipality has an estimated population of 147,864 people spread over 182 towns and villages with about 95 per cent of the settlement pattern built in the rural fashion.

He noted that, the new pension scheme will encourage many more youth to save for the future since the new minimum age for eligibility to join the scheme is now pegged at 15 years. Also, it is now less cumbersome to qualify for either full or reduced pension because the new scheme puts the minimum contribution period at 180 months against 240 months as pertained in the old scheme.

Honourable Ayamga noted that the Upper East region has the best tourists’ attractions in the country including the Tong Tengzuk shrines and Paga crocodile ponds. He therefore asked the course 31 team and other prospective tourists to choose Upper East as the ultimate destination to explore tourism in Ghana.

The leader of the course 31 team, Naval Captain J.O. Kontoh said the Upper East region is among five regions that are being toured by students of course 31 to acquaint themselves with current affairs in the regions including the new pension scheme, issues relating to environmental sanitation, land and chieftaincy disputes and the H1N1 flu.

The team comprised eight students from Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Gambia and Rwanda and some staff members of course 31.
