The Deputy Upper East regional minister, Honourable Lucy Awuni, has
advised basic school candidates currently writing the 2010 Basic
Education Certificate Examination [BECE] to first read questions
carefully and understand before answering them.
Honourable Awuni gave the advice when she and the Acting Regional
Director of education, Mrs. Agnes Atagabe visited three out of four exam centres in the Bolgatanga Municipality to see how the BECE candidates were fairing
with their exams.
The Deputy Regional Minister noted that some candidates often rush to
answer questions only to realise mid way that they are on the wrong
track. She cautioned candidates not to indulge exam malpractice since
the practice will affect them negatively, mar the names of their
schools and the region at large.
Honourable Awuni asked the candidates to work hard at each paper and
remember to write with clarity and simple language.
Acting Regional Director of Education for Upper East Mrs. Agnes
Atagabe, disclosed to the press that a special arrangement has been
fashioned out in Bawku to transport BECE candidates to and from exam
centres due to the ethnic disturbances there. Candidates in Bawku will
be transported under police and military protection. The same
protection will be extended to exam centres located within the hot
spots.
The Deputy Regional Minister and Mrs. Atagabe first visited the
Bolgatanga Girls’ Senior High exam centre where a total of 718
candidates comprising 381 girls and 337 boys wrote the first paper of
the 2010 BECE. At this same centre, four candidates were absent with
two of them being girls from Nyariga Doone Junior High School.
An exam supervisor said information received about these two girls
indicated that they have been given out for marriage.
Other exam centres including BOTECH and ZAMSE SEC/TECH were also visited.
