FIVE BLOCKS RENOVATED FOR NAVASCO March 21, 2011

A total of five blocks including two boys’ dormitories, a classroom block, a girls’ dormitory and an administration block have been renovated and handed over to the authorities of the Navrongo Senior High School [NAVASCO] in the Kassena-Nankana East district of the Upper East region.

The renovation works were undertaken to reverse the deplorable state of the various structures and also to make academic work and life on campus more comfortable for staff and students.

The major works included installation of showers, fitting of tiles for bath houses and dormitories, new ceilings among others. Messrs Zamanoma Enterprise, Diande Enterprise, Eborics Company Ltd. And Gakoka Enterprise worked on the various projects and all of them finished on schedule to the admiration of the regional minster and the school authorities.

An amount of GH C594,706.65 was spent on the two boys’ dormitories each being one-storey facility comprising 12 rooms each while the girls’ dormitory cost GH C220,668.69 to renovate. Meanwhile, GH C263, 563.41 was used for various works on the administration block and GH C205, 387.oo spent on a one-storey classroom block with a laboratory.

According to the headmaster of NAVASCO, Mr. Patrick Tangonyire, the renovation of the various facilities comes at the right time as the school prepares to climax its 50th Anniversary celebrations this month.

Mr. Tangonyire thanked government for providing funds for the projects and pledged optimum and careful use of the facilities warning that any student who damages any furnishing items would be made to replace it. He appealed for more funds to undertake similar renovation works on two more dormitories and the headmaster’s bungalow.

The Upper East regional Minister, Hon. Mark Owen Woyongo who was led by staff of the Architectural Engineering Services Limited [AESL] to inspect the projects before the handing over noted that government has released of lot of tax payers’ money for the projects confirming its resolve on improving educational infrastructure in the country.

Mr. Woyongo therefore urged the school authorities to ensure that the facilities are regularly maintained monitored for prompt repairs whenever defects occur in them. He cautioned the students against vandalism adding that students should surcharged to repair anything they damage.
