A former National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director in charge of the Bolgatanga Municipality, Mr. Edward Ayiriba Ayagle has been confirmed as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East region.
He was nominated by President John Atta Mills a fort night ago following the relief of the former MCE.
In a “Yes” or “No” vote supervised by the Electoral Commission, Mr. Ayagle pulled 48 “Yes” votes
against eight “No” votes to secure the confirmation.
The figure represents 84.6 per cent of 52 valid votes cast with one honourable member being absent out of the total assembly membership of 55 which includes the MCE and the Member of Parliament who has no voting rights.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ayagle thanked members for giving him a one-touch confirmation and called for their support, saying he will work with them to improve food security, health and educational infrastructure in the municipality.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Mark Owen Woyongo who witnessed the swearing in ceremony, urged the new municipal chief to respect all people in his dealings, run an open-door administration and above all be receptive to the party faithful and the civil servants he will be working with.
Hon. Woyongo was glad that the municipality now has an MCE who will lead the development agenda.
He revealed that government has secured a 150 million dollar loan for rural electrification, adding that communities in the municipality will get their fair share. In addition, each of the region's nine districts will get 100 boreholes to augment water supply under a project which is ongoing.
