UEYA AWARDS HARDWORKING PERSONALITIES

Six personalities in the Upper East Region whose individual efforts have impacted on the lives of the underprivileged and also contributed to the development of the region have been awarded by the Upper Youth Association [UEYA]. The awardees who have made tremendous contributions in the health, education and in the business sectors comprised five men and a woman.

The UEYA, a non-partisan youth organization organized the awards ceremony as a move to encourage the region’s citizens to become selfless and work hard for the general good.

The Deputy Upper East regional minister, Mrs. Lucy Awuni in an address noted that the awardees faced challenges during their working lives but they never gave up and therefore called on the youth to be focused, set goals and work at achieving them.

Mrs. Awuni said in today’s fast changing world, only education can speed up the country’s development. She urged parents to send their children to school and ensure that they complete successfully. She expressed worry that with the multiplicity of schools across the country, some children still fail to attend school.

The Deputy Regional minister appealed to all and sundry to register when the electoral commission opens the biometric registration exercise in March noting that anyone who fails to register will be disenfranchising himself or herself from choosing the leaders who will govern us all.

The award recipients include Mr. Robert Ajene, a retired educationist and a business man, Dr. Francis Asaana, CEO of Quality group of companies and Most Rev. Monsignor Roger Aboteyuure. The rest are Rev. Eastwood Anaba of the Fountain Gate chapel, Mr. Roland Agambire CEO and founder of rLG communications and Madam Melanie Kasise, a retired educationist and founder of SWOPA, a non-governmental organisation in the Upper East.

The chairman of council of elders of the Upper East Youth Association, Mr. Nobel Alagskoma disclosed in a speech that the association will continue to praise people and organizations whose efforts promote infrastructural development of the Upper East and the general welfare of the region’s people. Meanwhile, the group shall also collaborate with appropriate agencies to expose and deal with wrong doers especially those holding public office.

Mr. Alagskoma revealed that last year only one person was singled out for recognition. This personality was the Upper East regional health director of health, Dr. John Koku Awonoor-Williams. He said awards scheme will be a yearly affair till all deserving people in the region’s development history are recognized.
