rlG-GYEEDA TRAIN 684 YOUTH UNDER ICT MODULE

A partnership between rlG Communications Company limited and the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency [GYEEDA] has resulted in the successful training and Date: October 25, 2012 graduation of 684 youth selected from four districts of the Upper East region including Bolgatanga Municipal, Kassena-Nankana West and Builsa districts.

A partnership between rlG Communications Company limited and the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency [GYEEDA] has resulted in the successful training and graduation of 684 youth selected from four districts of the Upper East region including Bolgatanga Municipal, Kassena-Nankana West and Builsa districts.

The beneficiaries, who were taken through several months of mobile phone repair techniques and other ICT technologies, were each presented with a set of repair kit and other tools.

In a keynote address read for him, the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Owen Woyongo 
noted that 684 graduates forms part of 7,134 beneficiaries who constitute the final phase of the third contract training reached between government and the rlG. He said following the successful execution of the third contract, government has decided that 30,000 more youth will soon start training under the GYEEDA programme.

Mr. Woyongo pledged that government will continue to provide adequate resources to GYEEDA to facilitate the recruitment and training of more youth irrespective of political affiliation so as to help them with meaningful source of livelihood.

The National Coordinator of GYEEDA, formally known as the National Youth Employment Programme, Hon. Abuga Pele said carefully thought out transformational steps are being taken to make GYEEDA a sustainable employment and funding agency to support youth development as well as create reliable jobs for the youth.

Mr. Pele also revealed that his outfit has successfully sent a proposal to the World Bank which has resulted in the release of 65 million Dollars to GYEEDA in furtherance of its efforts to expand the activities of agency to create more opportunities for many youth to become gainfully employed.
The Head of ICTat the rlG, Mr. Isaac Appiah cautioned the youth against selling out their repair kits stressing such a practice will defeat the purpose of the partnership by GYEEDA and rlG. Mr. Appiah said rlG is poised to expand its ICT training institutions and when this is done, the company can take on several thousands of youth for training.
