Hon. Abayage formally did the
presentation at a brief ceremony at the Residency to the officers from the
regional education directorate which was also witnessed by district directors
of education. She said the presentation of the desks was her birthday gift to
schools across the region, especially those that were in dire need of such
educational logistics so as to help improve teaching and learning. Her birthday
is in June and comes on the 30th day of the month.
She noted that as the main
oversight body over schools in the region, the GES Director was better placed
to select the beneficiary schools but appealed to the directorate to ensure
that there was a fair distribution encompassing the East, Central and West
zones of the region.
The Regional Minister also advised authorities
at the user-schools to take good care of the furniture in order to prolong their
life span. The day’s presentation comes on the back of similar donations of
some other assorted items including food items and other household consumables
to the Mother of Mercy Babies’ Home in Sirigu, Kassena-Nankana West district
and the Mama Laadi’s Children’s Home in the Bolgatanga Municipality on the 26th
and 27th June respectively.
Meanwhile, a Deputy Director in
charge of Planning at the regional education directorate Mr. Abdul-Korah Razak
received the desks on behalf of the schools and commended the minister for her
intervention. He also expressed hope that more friends of the minister will
continue to assist her so as to increase her support to cover more schools in
the region.

Mr. Abdul-Korah observed that as a
new academic year was just about arriving, the minister’s gesture would help in
planning.
However, a few more institutions
may be benefiting from the regional minister’s givings as information gathered
from sources close to her indicate that she also plans visiting the Navrongo
War Memorial and the Bolgatanga Regional Hospitals’ children’s wards this
Saturday and Sunday.
