RAPPER TEFLON FLEXX CALLS FOR GOV’T TO EST. FUND FOR MUSICIANS 07th February, 2020

One of Ghana’s rap sensenations that orgainsers cannot bill shows and risk leaving out, Teflon Flexx has sent a passionate appeal to government to as  matter of urgency, establish a fund which will provide ready cash for musicians to invest their trade.

Teflon Flexx who hails from Wiaga in the Upper East Region of Ghana with birth name, Christopher Akaateba, made the appeal in an interview last Friday on TV3’s flagship morning show, New Day as he featured on the segment dubbed “one on one with Teflon Flexx”. The rapper stressed that, the time had come for government to make such an intervention in the country’s music industry because to him, the nation stands to make huge financial gains from such a venture as taxes will be paid while interests, will also be computed on monies disbursed from the fund.

The artiste who used to base in Tamale and now based in Ghana’s capital of Accra, mentioned neighbouring Nigeria as one such country that had invested in the music industry and was reaping economically from that investment and therefore wandered why Ghana was so hesitant to do same. He noted that, it takes huge expenses on the musician to do studio sessions, feature other top-norch artites to up your game, do promotions on radio and television as well as, advertise on other modern electronic platforms in order to benefit from the talent. He thus charged programme orgenaisers and corporate bodies to pay “reasonable gig fees” to artistes as a lot of hard work, vital man hours and cash investments usually go into making good music and carving a nitch for an artiste.

Teflon Flexx disclosed to the hostess that, he was a musician talented enough to do any genre of music but that, he was a pro in afropop, dancehall, hiplife and hip-hop. He added that, he had been a musician since childhood but that, his family never gave its blessings at that early age and so, he had to manage the situation as he was schooling but yet, never allowed his love for music to die away.

The rapper answered with pride when he was asked how far he had gone with education that, he held a Degree from the University for Development Studies in Wa after having successfully completed secondary education earlier at the St. Charles Minor Seminary School. He revealed that he grew his music carrer professionally from the Northern Region’s capital of Tamale around 2013.

Teflon has blessed several shows with his spectacular musical talents during his student-days at the UDS and also mounted stage for other shows in the Upper West Region, Upper East and Northern regions and now, thoughout Accra. Some bangers released over time by Teflon include Eskebelebe in 2019 which featured twin rappers, Dope Nation and mostly recently, a hot afrobeat single christened, Madina which is enjoying massive airplay and moving the feet of lovers of good music at events.

According to young talented rapper, his type of music was loved by people across all ages as he recalled that, during a show he held in his native land, Sandema in December 2019, he spotted a number of old ladies who were among the jubilant and excited crowds and upon asking their mission at such odd hours at a youthful programme, they replied that “we are your fans and we follow your music on social media”.

Teflon said he was using digital platforms as well as today’s multiplicity of social media networks to promote his music and brand. He stated that, he records great songs every other day and had more than necessary songs to release albums but insisted that, he was not ready to drop an album any time soon because a lot of cash and a strong management team was required to put together, release and do effective promotions for an album to sell and bring in the targeted profits.

Teflon however got many guessing whether or not he meant his answer when he was asked a straight question if he had a girl or was dating. With a brief smile on his face, the rapper answered; “I have no girlfriend because I won’t have time for any lady now as ladies need a lot of time from their men, need to be texted every morning, afternoon and evening and a girl will want me by her side most of the time”. He continued and stated that, for this time in his musical career, he would rather pump all his time and attention into his craft and then look for the ladies much later.
