PRESIDENT NANA ADDO EARNS PRAISE FOR KEEPING DEVELOPMENT PROMISES 7th OCT., 2020

The President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has given strong assurances to the chiefs and people of the Upper East Region that, he has no intentions of abandoning his promises for the comprehensive development of the region and other parts of Ghana. He said this was by far, manifested in his successful implementation of the free Senior High School Programme, the fertilizer subsidy intervention and the Planting for Food and Jobs Programme amongst others.

Prez Nana Addo gets briefing on Bolga-Bawku road

President Nana Addo was speaking at the palace of the Tong-Rana, Paramount Chief of the Talensi traditional area in the Talensi District during a courtesy call on the chief which marked the commencement of his two-day working tour of the Upper East. This tour, also becomes the President’s first visit to the Upper East Region since his acclamation as the flag bearer for the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP] in the 2020 general elections.

He emphasised that “the year of roads” mantra declared by his government was aggressively pursued as critical roads networks were either completed or in their advance stages of construction and mentioned particularly, the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmako road which he chastised the immediate past regime for talking plenty about and yet doing nothing about it before exiting office. “We are also particularly keen about the development of the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project as it will be a major transformation of the lives of the people of the Upper East region on its completion”, the President stated.

According to him, the NPP government was always preoccupied with introducing interventions that would constantly improve the livelihoods of the citizens of Ghana and mentioned for instance that, a huge chunk of money has pumped annually into the flagship Planting for Food and Jobs Programme [PFJ]. He noted agriculture was about the main economic activity of the region’s people, the PFJ coupled with the coming on stream of the Pwalugu Dam project which has a purposeful irrigation component, will further improve incomes for the majority in the production value chain.

Turning his attention on the country’s pending 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections, President Nana Addo made solemn promise to the chiefs and people of Ghana that “I will do whatever is in my power to make sure that Ghana remains peaceful through, before, during and after the elections”. “The Ghanaian people deserve to be able to cast their ballots in peace and security, and we are going to make sure that happens” he added.

The Nomoalgu Dam
Meanwhile in his welcome statement earlier, the Tong-Rana Kubilsong Nanlebeg-Tang conferred the accolade “President Promise-Do” on Nana Addo as by his estimation, the President was delivering on a good majority of the things he had to deliver to the Ghanaian public. He for example mentioned a completed dam project in the Namoalgu community, executed by the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority [GIDA] which the President later inspected.

The President and his entourage including Upper East Regional Minister, Hon. Tangoba Abayage and other ministers of state then made a trip on the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmako road with a stop at the Kobore point for an inspection of works and interactions with the contractor as well as the chiefs and people of the Kusual area. Here, a consultant and resident-engineer with the Brazilian Contractor working on the road, Mr. Peter Dagadu disclosed that, nearly 50 kilometres of the road had been done while about 46 kilometres was outstanding.

President Nana Addo and his team also addressed a durbar of the chiefs and people at Zebila and its environs during which the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta revealed that of the Upper East Region’s total network of 3,800 kilometres, some 100 roads projects were currently being constructed while an additional 26 were under consideration for awards. He added that some three major bridges were also being built on the almost 116-kilometre Bolgatanga-Bawku road including one on the Red Volta.

The Newly Commissioned Warehouse in Nabdam

The President also commissioned a 1,000 metric ton warehouse in Nangodi in the Nabdam district and addressed a durbar in the township before ending the day’s tour back in the regional capital, Bolgatanga where formally switched on the newly installed ultramodern street lighting system and traffic light installations. The day two will see the President inspect other projects in the Navrongo and Paga areas.
