He polled 26,268 votes representing 58.50 per cent of valid votes cast whilst his closest contender, Bongo District Chief   Executive [DCE], Hon. Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga, who was the New Patriotic Party’s [NPP] Parliamentary Candidate with 17,276 votes, indicating a percentage of 38.48.

The other candidates were Hon. George A. Afari who contested on the ticket of the Progressive People’s Party [PPP] gained 1,548 votes being 3.44 percent of valid votes cast and Hon. Richard Akaamah, the candidate for the Ghana Union Movement [GUM] only managed a score of 439 votes equal to,  0.97 per cent of all valid votes cast. Hon. Akaamah is reported to be an NPP disgruntled member whose intention was to drift votes away from the NPP’s candidate, Hon. Ayinbisa.

Bongo District Electoral Officer, Mr. Henry Adeenze Agaabil disclosed that in all, 44,896 valid votes counted out of the total number of 59,457 persons that were expected to vote on the day. In an interview later, he explained that votes so counted included the ballots from the Special Voting conducted on Tuesday 1st December, 2020 during which, a total of 699 registered voters cast their ballot.

The EC Director gave further details that, the Bongo Constituency had some 123 regular polling stations and that with the inclusion of the Special Voting polling station, the total number of polling stations in the 2020 general elections will stand at 124.

Meanwhile, on the 9th of December, 2020, Hon. Ayinbisa on his Facebook wall, congratulated the MP-elect, Hon. Edward A. Bawa in a post portions of which read “I set out in this election with the objective to win …I have lost the elections to you my senior brother, Hon. Edward Abambire Bawa. I accept the defeat and wish to congratulate you on your victory”.

However later in a publication on the news portal of Bolgatanga-based Dreamz 101.9 FM on 10th December, 2020, Hon. Ayinbisa partly attributed his defeat to this reason – “NDC big wigs stormed Bongo to cause my defeat”.
