A Look At Some of The Items |

pressure monitors, 10 non-contact infrared thermometers, 10 packs of surgical
blades with each containing 100 pieces, 10 surgical single-use sutures and a
quantity of scalpel surgical blade holders.

At a brief meeting at the hospital to make the donation, Mr. Adivila disclosed that he learnt of the hospital’s needs through a conversation with the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Eric Wedam who happens to be his classmate some years ago at the Navrongo Secondary School, NAVASCO and so, he decided to help out.
Mr. Adivila who is a service man with the US Army declined to reveal the cost of the items, but maintained that, he was just glad that he has been able to help at a time the hospital needed it. He hoped that other persons from Navrongo and its environs may also be moved by his “widows might” to step forward to assist the hospital in any way they can, since they too have families back home that the facility attends to.
According to Mr. Adivila, Dr. Wedam was invited some time back to engage with the Kassena Union in the States during which he laid out the needs of the hospital. He added that the Union was still working on pulling resources together to respond to those needs appropriately but whilst he was coming down to Ghana, he thought it wise to bring along what he could, in his personal capacity whilst the union’s help was still highly anticipated.
On receipt of the donation, Dr. Wedam commended Mr. Adivila for his singular effort and asked God’s blessings on him, his family and at his job stressing that, as a doctor, he knew the cost of these medical items and that, the hospital really appreciated the gesture.
Dr. Wedam, During His Welcoming of Mr. Adivila |
Dr. Wedam noted that, Navrongo had many
worthy citizens such as Mr. Adivila working elsewhere in Ghana and abroad and
appealed to such persons to be responsive to the needs of the hospital and help
whenever they are able to do so. He said the donation was a timely one and that the
equipment and consumables would be put to maximum use for the ultimate benefit
of patients.
The Medical Superintendent said
since its establishment in 1961, the War Memorial Hospital had not tasted any
major renovation except for some touch-ups at a few sections of it by some
benevolent individuals and groups. He disclosed that Management had in the recent past, sent out
some proposals to corporate entities including MTN, Vodafone and others for
various kinds of support but was yet to receive any favourable feedback.
Some staff of the hospital, including the accountant, procurement officer and nurses who also witnessed the presentation of the items, were all happy and told our reporter, they hoped many more compatriots of the Navrongo emulate the good example of Mr. Adivila.
