DLE RUNNING SMOOTHLY IN CHIANA-PAGA CONSTITUENCY 19th DECEMBER, 2023

The District Level Elections [DLE] also known as the district assembly elections, started on time and are running smoothly at almost all the polling stations across the Chiana-Paga Constituency in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region.

This observation was made when the Information Services Department [ISD] joined the District Chief Executive [DCE] Hon. Gerard Ataogye and his team, to monitor the conduct of the polls at some random selected polling stations. The DCE’s team left the district capital, Paga before 07:00 AM this morning and headed to the West Zone of the constituency, that is Chiana and its environs so as to catch the commencement of the polls and everything was on point.

Meanwhile, Hon. Ataogye also made a stop in Kajelo, where he cast his vote and described the voter turnout at the Kajelo Market Square and Nabio Primary School polling centres as ‘massive and encouraging”. At the time of his arrival, 142 voters out of the expected total of 702 had already cast their votes at the Kajelo Market polling station whilst the Nabio polling centre registered 120 votes as against the total voter population on register of 713.

Moving back to the Paga area, the team called at the Tedam Junior High School Upper Block polling station and here, some 74 voters of the expected 385 had voted by 10:36 AM as was disclosed by the Presiding Officer [PO], Madam Stella Ayamga. Shifting to the Lower Block polling station within the same vicinity which had a total voters number standing at 327, only 54 of them had cast their votes by 10:38 AM as reported by the PO, Mr. Pwawari Godwin.

The team then went ahead to monitor proceedings at the Tedam Primary Upper Block in Gwaare where the PO, Mr. Nicholas Abwongwo reported that they had only recorded 46 voters of the total 316 voters as of 10:50 AM. Just close-by was the Lower Block polling centre of the same primary school. This also had just 49 voters on the record by 10:52 AM out of the expected voter number of 430.

The DCE’s monitoring of the DLE polls ended at the Post Office polling station in Paga town, which had recorded some 94 voters at 11:01 AM since the commencement of voting at 07:00 AM.

On the whole, the team did not receive any reports relating security breaches or any other form of electoral disturbances.
