OUR ASSEMBLY REMAINS RESOLUTE ON DEV'T DRIVE - DCE 20th DECEMBER, 2025
As Management of the Kassena-Nankana West District in the Upper East Region brings the 2025 working year to a close, the District Chief Executive [DCE], Hon. Stephen Aeke Akurugo has shared with the residents of the district and the general public, some important projects the Assembly has resolved to execute at the commencement of the 2026 working year.
In his presentation of the Executive Committee’s [Execo] report at the Assembly’s last and third ordinary meeting for the year held on Friday, December 19, 2025, the DCE disclosed that befitting toilets cum urinal facilities will be constructed at all the major markets in the district, a modern livestock market also earmarked for construction in the capital, Paga while water facilities will be provided at major markets in the district. Additionally, a number of market sheds shall be put up at the Chiana market and the district’s roads sector will also receive appropriate attention as access routes are to be constructed to aid smooth flow of commodities in the triangle connecting the Sirigu, Kandiga and Mirigu markets.
Hon. Akurugo made further disclosures that in 2026, the Assembly will prioritise infrastructure support for schools especially, those in deplorable conditions, such as Kaasi and Kassam Junior High Schools among others. He revealed that the Execo meeting, held on 1st December, 2025 also charged Management to table the Assembly’s draft Medium Term Development Plan before the General Assembly for consideration and adoption.
The DCE called on all residents to trust the judgement of the Assembly as far as development is concerned emphasizing; “I want to assure you that the District Assembly remains resolute in its determination to work tirelessly in the best interest of our people and to promote development across all communities in the district”. He also expressed his sincere appreciation to all honourable assembly members and heads of department at the assembly for their cooperation and support since he took office from April, 2025.
Meanwhile, various district commanders and
some unit commanders of the security agencies were also allotted some time to
brief the meeting on their mandate as well as, address concerns the honourable
assembly members had, relating to their operations. In his presentation for instance, the
District Commander for the Narcotics Control Commission [NACOC], DNCO Lawrence
Lamptey Mills disclosed that, unlike other sister security agencies such as the
Ghana Police Service, NACOC by its standard operating procedures does not require
any warrant to conduct searches on a person, in a vehicle or at any premises.

Officer Lamptey Mills added that, aside the direct enforcement against uncontrolled possession and use of narcotics, his outfit also carries out public education on the canker and the negative repercussions of narcotics use and disclosed that within the year, radio programmes, institutional and schools’ visitations were done.
When he took his turn, the Upper East Regional
Coordinator for the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons, Mr. Victor Akanbonga urged the public to take
advantage of Government’s gun amnesty and report to the nearest police station
either to get their guns registered or surrounded while the amnesty is still
active. He warned that failure to do so after the 16th January, 2026
deadline, any owner of weapons that are not legally registered as well as
weapons not classified for civilian use, will have serious questions to answer
when the task-force starts conducting its nationwide crackdown.

Other service commanders including the District Commander for the Ghana National Fire Service, DOIII Boniface Awiah, officer Oscar Piuyire, Operations Commander of the Navrongo Prisons and Commanders from the Ghana Immigration Service and Customs from the Ghana Revenue Authority, made presentations at the Assembly meeting.
