Hon. AKURUGO [In Reflector] At The Mirigu CHPS

The Management of the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly in the Upper East Region has completed three days of
inspections and site visitations to various projects’ sites across the district. The projects, financed under the District Assemblies’ Common Fund [DACF] included some under the health, roads, water and education sectors.

The District Chief Executive [DCE] Hon. Stephen Aeke Akurugo who led a technical team from the Assembly including the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Mohammed Issaka, the District Planning Officer, the Physical Planning Officer, Internal Auditor and District Works Engineer, to carry out the inspection, said he was generally impressed with the progress of work. Though he acknowledged that, the contractors were working within schedule, he charged them to double-up their efforts as users of the projects and the public were in dire need of essential health services, good roads and constant water supply to aid effective service delivery.

At the Kayoro Health Centre in the west zone of the district where the visits and inspections began on 22nd January, 2026, there were ongoing major works for the completion of a semi-detached nurses’ quarters and based on the level of works undertaken so far, the contractor assured the team that he could be done with one phase of the works in the next two weeks. The scope of works for this project included roofing, some other carpentry and joinery works, electrical works, apron construction round the quarters, burglarproof installations and the provision of a cesspit tank. The contract was awarded three months ago and the contractor, given six months to complete it and hand over.

The team made its second stop in the day at the Nakong Primary School where a 2-Unit Kindergarten [KG] block is being constructed. The project had been roofed, metal doors and windows installed, with ceiling panels fitted and a cesspit tank, also constructed. Upon engagements with the contractor on site, Hon. Akurugo tasked him to make the drilling of the borehole component a priority as a school environment such as the KG requires a reliable water source for keeping the children neat as they often “soil” themselves during school hours. The team also charged the contractor to immediately start the planting and nursing of trees around the school to serve as windbreaks and shade.

Still in the west zone, a maternity block at the Nakong CHPS Compound which was receiving varied works to complete the facility and make it fit for purpose, was also inspected as the team interacted with both contractor and health workers to learn of any concerns that needed to be addressed. Meanwhile at the Chiana Senior High School where the day one’s rounds ended, work was ongoing for the drilling and mechanization of a solar-powered borehole water system to be fitted with a Ramboo 1000 Polytank for water storage and distribution.

On the second day of the site visits, the Hon. Akurugo led his team to the east zone of the district with the first stop at the Mirigu CHPS Compound. At this site, a new maternity block is under construction with facilities including labour room, waiting arena, delivery room, midwife’s bedroom and a kitchen among others. The building was roofed at the time of the inspection while plastering and other works were also ongoing. The DCE noted that the works were progressing fast and reassured the health workers and the community that, resourcing health facilities remained a big priority for the Mahama-Administration and that the Mirigu area will never be left out in the fair distribution of infrastructure.

Works Ongoing, BUGSONGO Prim. Sch.
Hon. Akurugo also appealed to the Mirigu Naba to ensure that the area continued to be peaceful as any disturbances in the traditional areas always had the high tendency of diverting resources from development to huge peace keeping expenditures.

In Kandiga community, the team inspected some spot improvement works on the 1.4km commercial area-Kindiga market road where the contractor told the team that he is moving equipment from the Builsa area to the site by the weekend to resume work. From here, the team headed to the Bugsongo Primary in the Sirigu area and was conducted round the 6-Unit classroom block, headteacher’s office and adjoining semi-detached teachers’ quarters; all undergoing major renovation works.

Also, the Dazongo 3-Unit Junior High School block and a solar-mechanization water system with an overhead Ramboo 1000 polytank project at the Sirigu Senior High School were inspected to climax the day’s outing. Meanwhile on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the team concluded its inspection tours in the district’s central zone by visiting the Boania community which is benefiting from a 3-Unit classroom project with office and stores and a solar mechanized waster system site at the Paga SHS. Also, the DCE and his team inspected the renovated Navio CHPS Compound as well called at the Babile slaughter house rehabilitation project site.
