“This intervention to the ISD is not an isolated effort but forms part of Government’s broad reform efforts hinged on the Resetting Ghana Agenda and aimed at repositioning the ISD from a traditional civil service organization into a modern , dynamic and technology-driven institution; capable of effectively communicating Government’s policies and programmes to the people”.

Hon. Akamugri was speaking this Thursday morning at the forefront of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council to present three of the information vans to the ISD in the region.

He said as part of the retooling process, Government has undertaken key structural reforms including repositioning the ISD closer to the Presidency; as a consequence of the restructuring of ministries after H.E John Dramani Mahama assumed office in January, 2025. The intention he added, is to enhance coordination, improve efficiency and ensure  timely and accurate dissemination of vital information to the public.

The Regional Minister revealed that some important working logistics came along with the information vans; which arrived in the region on April 2, 2026 and these included 16 brand new desktop computers, cameras with microphones to match and other sophisticated ICT gadgets. He noted that the gesture signaled Government’s commitment to equipping the ISD with the requisite tools to deliver its mandate effectively, accurately and on time. In addition, each van is equipped with advance features such as dual digital LED projection screens and modern public address systems making them versatile platforms for public education and community engagements.

Hon. Akamugri assured the ISD’s Regional Director, Chief Bennin Douri Issifu and his staff of his office’s support at all times; “when you are in difficulties in line of your work, especially on the field, resort to the Regional Coordinating Council or REGSEC, DISEC or MUSEC and we will be ready to support you to deploy”.

He also tasked the ISD Boss to ensure that his staff comply strictly with regulations and the maintenance regime regarding the vehicles and equipment.

For his part, the Upper East Regional Director for the Information Services Department, Chief Bennin Douri Issifu expressed his profound gratitude to the Regional Minister for his constant support to the ISD and his commitment to strengthening governance communication at the grassroots level. He also commended the ISD's Chief Director and staff for their hard work and unwavering dedication to public education and national development.

Chief Bennin noted that the delivery of the new information vans to his department underscores a significant milestone in the collective efforts of the ISD and stakeholders in sending governance closer to the people. He remarked, "in a region where many of our communities are rural and sometimes, hard-to-reach, these vans are not just vehicles, but they are powerful tools for engagement, education and empowerment. He disclosed that the Upper East ISD directorate received three of the vans which are in turn to be deployed to three zones including the central cluster van to be stationed at Bolgatanga, the western cluster one to situated in Navrongo and the eastern cluster to hosted in Zebila.

According to the ISD director, this arrangement is to maximise the use of the few on hand stressing that the strategic deployment scheme was to ensure that each of the 15 administrative districts had accessibility and use of the vans until such a time that the Government provides one to each district office of the ISD. He assured the public that the new information vans will be put to efficient and sustainable use for the benefit of the region's people in the sectors of health, agriculture, peace and security among other areas of interest.
