PARED HELPS WITH FOOD JUNE 19, 2009

Partners in Rural Empowerment and Development PARED, a Nalerigu based non-governmental organization has over the past few months distributed food items to members of poverty endemic villages in the East Mamprusi District.

The co-ordinator of PARED Mr. Assani S. Tampuri disclosed in an interview with the ISD that in May, 2009 for instance, the NGO in collaboration with Care International and the World Food Programme distributed 1,483 bags of maize, 306 cartons of oil and 74 bags of salt to selected members of villages earmarked as poverty endemic.

Mr. Tampuri revealed that a total of 1,164 beneficiaries including 598 females received various food rations in five communities including Kulgona, Nanori, Poringong, Gandantinga and Charifoyiri.

The beneficiaries were selected in consultation with assembly persons, Chiefs and other opinion leaders who lived in the communities.

According to Mr. Tampuri, PARED was established in 1998 by a group of development workers who hail from Nalerigu.

PARED seeks to mobilize resources to maintain food security within its catchment area and also undertakes advocacy on pertinent development issues.

The NGO has since its birth, been collaborating with the district assemblies within its jurisdiction and also with IBIS Ghana, VSO, CIFS and Care International, all NGOs.
