The regional party executives and constituency executives from all 13 constituencies of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] in the Upper East region have declared their unflinching support for President John Evans Atta Mills as the best candidate to lead the party to lead to victory in the 2012 general elections.
The party executives made the declaration during an expanded executive meeting held at Bolgatanga to appraise the president’s recent duty tour of the region during which he cut sod for the commencement of several projects.
Regional Vice Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Victor Yahaya who read a statement signed by the party’s regional secretary, Mr. Akamugri Donatus said all the executives of the NDC in the region are committed to party unity and appealed to the national executives, the party’s council of elders and the founder of the NDC to take necessary steps to ensure that Atta Mills is given a second term to run for the presidency.
According to Mr. Yahaya, it has become conventional in the country’s unwritten constitution for every sitting president to be given a second term to prove his or her worth since the four years are too short for one to translate his or her vision into tangible projects.
Mr. Yahaya therefore said the party’s presidential congress scheduled for July 8-10, 2011 should give Atta Mills another term because his style of governance has set the pace for peaceful coexistence among all tribes and also attracted floating voters to the party. Also, under his administration, Ghana’s international image has been redeemed as a nation with a bright future and no longer a hub for cocaine trade.
On the president’s recent duty tour of the Upper East region, Mr. Yahaya noted that government has given serious attention to the region in the areas of development in the education, health, water and sanitation sectors and road infrastructure.
