The Upper East Regional communication team of the National Democratic Congress [NDC] has issued a press statement congratulating the President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills for his landslide victory at the just ended congress of the party at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region. The communication team also expressed its profound gratitude to the delegates for their show of maturity and good thinking by overwhelmingly endorsing the president to lead the NDC to victory in the 2012 general elections.
The press release, signed by the Coordinator of the Communication team, Mr. Amos Awenzor further gave thanks to the Almighty God for granting the party a successful congress. He stressed “It was so successful that it sent shivers down the spine of the NPP and their flag bearer because with this successful congress of the NDC and many other virtues of the NDC and the president, our flag bearer, 2012 the election is a done deal for the NDC”.
The Coordinator also commended the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings and her campaign team for accepting the verdict of the congress and pledging to support the president to execute the better Ghana agenda and the 2012 electioneering campaign. According Mr. Awenzor, there were real issues that were brought to light as the president rightly acknowledged in his victory speech and these will need special attention and redress before the 2012 campaign can be waged with the needed grass root enthusiasm it deserves.
On Dr. Obed Asamoah’s intention to rejoin the NDC, the coordinator cautioned the party to make deep analysis of this move before taking any major decision on it. He argued that, the actions and inactions of Dr. Obed Asamoah and his group in 2005 left the NDC in difficult moments thereby giving the party’s communicators a hard task of defending it on the airwaves. The release held that if his request is granted, Dr. Asamoah should be made to “join the queue from behind” since it took the sacrifice and maturity of the party’s rank and file to stay back and build the NDC to where it is today.
