NDC RE-ELECTS HON. BAWA AS P.C FOR BONGO 26th August, 2019
Like
elsewhere in Ghana, the Bongo District and for that matter, the Bongo Constituency also witnessed that one political activity that was simultaneous throughout almost the whole country except for a few constituencies.
By
the end of a successful conduct of the NDC’s parliamentary primaries last Saturday therefore, the sitting Bongo Constituency MP, Hon. Edward A. Bawa emerged victorious
with 590 votes while Dr. Akumperigya placed second with a record of 291 votes.
The Electoral Commission recorded some four rejected ballots in the process.
The activity in question was the National Democratic Congress' [NDC] parliamentary primaries conducted on Saturday, 24th August, 2019 against
the 2020 Parliamentary and Presidential elections.
In the Bongo Constituency of the Upper East Region, it was a two-horse race between the
incumbent Member of Parliament [MP] for the constituency, Hon. Edward A. Bawa and his only contender, one Dr. Rainer
Akumperigya.
Hon. Edward A. Bawa, NDC's PC elect |
Being the major opposition party in the country, the two competitors put up very vigorous and intensive campaigns to grab the Bongo Constituency slot to
represent their party, the NDC. My checks and "nosing around some sources", did not bring up any vote-buying allegations in the Bongo elections as was reported from other constituencies such as Kumbungu where current NDC MP, Hon. Ras Mubarack lost his bid.
The Electoral Commission recorded some four rejected ballots in the process.
The
Total Valid Votes were 881 and Total Votes Cast stood at 885.

It
is however worthy to state that, as per records in the Bongo Constituency,
since Ghana embraced constitutional rule and the practice of democracy, the
Parliamentary seat here had always been passed on from one NDC MP to another.
But
many political watchers in the constituency and in the Upper East Region, are
banking on the current Bongo District Chief Executive [DCE], Hon. Peter
Ayinbisa Ayamga to crush this political myth as the DCE and his campaign team
are working assiduously in ongoing campaigns awaiting the primaries of the
ruling New Patriotic Party by next month.
