SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION BY THE PACESETTERS, SLATED FOR DEC.24, 2026 30/08/26

A vibrant and community development-focused Navrongo youth group, the Pacesetters Parliament has earmarked Thursday, 24th December, 2026 for its Annual Science and Technology Exhibition which is scheduled to take place at the COS Park in the Navrongo township.

In the recent past, the Pacesetters has been widely known and readily remembered in both the Kassena-Nankana Municipality and the Kassena-Nankana West District for its health outreach interventions in communities across the two districts. The group has for instance, collaborated with the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital and the Paga district hospital as well as the Nayagenia Development Association for such free health exercises for the poor and rural folks.

In an interaction wedamBu TV had with the President of the Pacesetters Parliament, Dr.  Valentine K. Akulpwa, it came to light that, the Annual Science & Technology Show is designed and planned to become an annual community-based science, technology and innovation exhibition with the objective of identifying practical problems affecting communities within the Kassena-Nankana districts and the wider Upper East Region of Ghana. He another vital aim of the annual event is to encourage young people and local innovators to develop practical, affordable and sustainable solutions using locally available resources.

Dr. Akulpwa explained further that, “The initiative is built around a simple philosophy: Think Local. Solve Local. Transform Local. Rather than focusing solely on theoretical science, the exhibition will provide a platform where students, young innovators, tertiary institutions and community members can demonstrate how science, technology, indigenous knowledge and creativity can be applied to real-life challenges”.

 

Asked what informed the decision of the Pacesetters to veer into technology and science intervention in addition to the group’s widely known free health outreach exercises, President Dr. Akulpwa noted that, many communities in the Upper East Region continue to face challenges relating to agriculture, water and sanitation, healthcare, energy, transportation, education, environmental protection and community development but that at the same time, the region is endowed with many talented young people with scientific knowledge, creativity and innovative ideas that are often not given sufficient opportunities to develop or showcase their solutions.

He therefore holds the strong that, the Pacesetters Annual Science & Technology Show will provide the bridge that can significantly close the gap by creating an annual platform which connects young innovators, schools, communities, businesses, professionals, government institutions and potential sponsors with the ultimate aim of fostering the needed networking that culminates in actionable projects.

According to him, the exhibition will further encourage participants to move beyond just identifying problems and to develop prototypes, models, demonstrations or practical interventions that can potentially be adopted by communities to derive quick and accessible solutions to everyday community-level problems.

Dr. Akulpwa aside creating the awareness about the role of science and technology play in community development, the annual exhibition equally falls in tandem with the Ghana Education Service’s efforts at promoting STEM education among young people in the country. He disclosed that projects expected to be displayed annually should those capable of addressing challenges in areas of Agriculture and Food Security, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Energy and Environmental Protection as well as, Healthcare and Wellness. Other critical areas projects are to focus on include Transport and Infrastructure, Education and Community Development, Waste Management and Recycling, Digital Technology and Automation and Climate Adaptation and Environmental Sustainability among others.

On who qualifies to partake in the science and technology exhibition, the Pacesetters’ President says, it is open to all Senior High School students, tertiary students, youth innovators, individual inventors, community-based innovators, student teams, science and technology clubs, schools and educational institutions and young entrepreneurs. Participants are encouraged to work individually or in teams to identify a local problem and present a practical technological solution. 

 

Meanwhile it must be noted that, a panel of competent judges and professionals will assess participating projects based on criteria such as innovation, relevance to local needs, affordability, technical creativity, sustainability, potential impact and scalability. To encourage excellence and meaningful innovation, outstanding participants, schools and teams will be recognized for their efforts and contributions.

Meanwhile, the group is calling for sponsorship for this noble initiative and this includes sponsorship from organizations and individuals, business entities, banks and financial institutions, telecommunications companies, the mining and industrial companies, NGOs and development organizations as well as from educational institutions, Government agencies, technology companies and media sponsorship in aid of publicity for the event.

NCCE EDUCATES WOMEN ON RULE OF LAW & ANTICORRUPTION FIGHT 15th OCTOBER, 2025

Over 50 women from various women’s groups, religious bodies, Persons Living with Disabilities and some minority tribes in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, have been educated on the principles of rule of law and Ghana’s anti-corruption campaign. The Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive [MCE], Hon.
