BOLGATANGA MUN. ASSEMBLY SPENDS OVER 1 MILLION CEDIS ON EDUCATION INFRASTRUCTURE 8th SEPT., 2026
Several hundreds of young children in the Yorogo-Gaabiisi and the Dorongo-Aperiga communities of the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region, will no longer trek longer distances outside of their communities to access basic education. This follows the successful completion and subsequent handing over, of two newly-constructed Kindergarten (KG) school blocks in these two communities, projects which together cost the Assembly 1,532,672.9 Ghana Cedis.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Hon. Roland Atanga Ayoo in the company of the Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Hon. Isaac Adongo on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, commissioned and handed over the KG blocks to the Ghana Education Service and local school authorities for operation and management.
Speaking at the Yorogo-Gaabiisi handing over ceremony, Hon. Ayoo disclosed that, the projects were funded from the Assembly’s share of the Common Fund and emphasized that, “education remains one of the most important investments any society can make in its people, it is the foundation upon which the future development of our communities and nation is built”. He noted that, it is at the Kindergarten level on the education ladder that children begin to develop the cognitive, social, emotional and communication skills that prepare them for a successful progression through the basic education system.
The MCE stated that Assembly feels gratified in spending on a very important area such as education and added that, “It is important that our children are provided with safe, appropriate and stimulating learning environments from the very beginning of their educational journey. The provision of this two-unit KG block, office, store and sanitary facilities will contribute significantly to improving the learning environment for our young children.
According to the MCE, the inclusion of a 4-seater KVIP and two-unit urinals both girls and boys, is particularly important, because access to adequate sanitation is an essential component of quality education as this makes room for children to learn in an environment where their health, dignity and safety are protected.
Hon. Ayoo charged parents, the school management committee and teachers to collaborate effectively in ensuring that the infrastructure and the playground-installations are properly maintained at regular intervals so as to justify the huge investment made in the communities and to prolong the life span of the learning and recreational facilities. He told parents that their responsibilities as parents and guardians goes beyond merely sending their children to school but they should show keen interest in what the schools require to function smoothly, teacher absenteeism and all other issues relating to proper school governance.
The Chief of Gaabiisi, Naba Edmund Adindaa Atiah, thanked the Assembly and the Mahama-led Government for the new KG block, disclosing that from as late as 1992, the community has been writing letters of appeals to the then Bolgatanga District Assembly and other administrations in the past but nothing meaningful came from it all, till the MCE, Hon. Ayoo and the MP, Hon. Isaac Adongo teamed up. He pledged that his community will extend every support the school requires so that today’s children and those coming after them, will derive maximum benefit from the project.
Hon. Isaac Adongo in his remarks assured the chief and people of Gaabiisi that, he will continue lobbying the President and Government to get for the area and the rest of the Bolgatanga Central Constituency its due share of national development. The MP said his cordial relationship with the MCE and the Assembly is a manifestation that, issues affecting all the communities are always channeled to him through their regular engagements on what needs to be done to improve lives and create the conducive atmosphere for businesses to thrive within the Constituency.
