PRESIDENT MAHAMA RECEIVES PRAISES FOR INTERVENTIONS AT PAGA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL SEPT., 8, 2026
The Paga Youth Movement (PAYOM), has commended President John Dramani Mahama and his administration for some key interventions undertaken at the Paga Senior High School (SHS) in support of the school’s development and uplifting of teaching and learning standards.
The commendation was contained in a
press release dated 7th September, 2026 and signed by the Chairman
of PAYOM, Mr. Aborah D. Wenewome. The group was particularly excited at the
completion and 13th August-commissioning of the school’s E-Block project,

as well as the President’s directive to authorities of the Ghana Education Service to absorb the school into a full boarding status by start of the new academic year. The release thanked President Mahama for his government’s allocation of funds for the construction of both girls’ and boys’ dormitories for the Paga SHS and the provision of a 60-seat bus for the school which has been facing huge challenges with the transportation of students from campus to different destination academic and other extra-curriculum school activities.
“As a youth movement, PAYOM has over
the years consistently advocated for these interventions, particularly the
completion of the E-Block project, the granting of full boarding status to the
school, and the reconstruction of the school’s girls’ dormitory, which was
gutted by fire in 2021”, the release stressed and thus, expresses great relief
that at last, the number one gentleman of the land has taken multiple actions
in addressing the diverse needs of Paga SHS during his recent working tour of
the Upper East Region.
The Completed, Commissioned E-Block
The PAYOM Chairman also extended the sincere appreciation of the people of Paga for the government’s commitment to resolving the persistent water crisis in Paga and its suburbs and also said, the community was very hopeful that the President’s pledge of completing the Agenda 111 hospital project located in Paga-Zenga, will be followed through with all the urgency it deserves as issues relating to health cannot be waiting forever for the required attention and action. He further noted that, the reconstructing of the Navio Bridge which caved in on 23rd March, 2022, will not only connect back Navio to Paga, Manyoro, Sirigu and major communities in neighboring Burkina-Faso, but will also be catalyst for quick emergency response time, for both health and security calls.
According to the release, the aforementioned interventions and commitments by the President are a testament that, the government will not leave the Paga area and the rest of the Upper East Region behind, regarding the share of the proverbial “national cake. To PAYOM, the President’s actions clearly indicated “President Mahama’s willingness to respond to longstanding concerns and provide solutions to some of the challenges that have affected the people of the area over the years”.
The group however, raised serious
concern over the increasing number of heavy-duty trucks passing through Paga
and the challenges associated with the frequent parking of these vehicles
within the Paga township owing to fears there could be explosions as many of these
trucks often carry mining explosives and other high-temperature fuels which
could easily ignite in the unfriendly scorching sun in the area. PAYOM
therefore calls on government and the sector authorities to consider the urgent
expansion of the Paga transit park on the land allocated for the inland port
project as this would provide a sustainable solution to this challenge while
also creating economic opportunities for the people of Paga.
