MULTIPURPOSE DAM TO BE CONSTRUCTED ON WHITE VOLTA      24thAugust, 2012 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM AG.PRO-UE/RCC The Upper East Regional, Mr. Mark Owen Woyongo has disclosed that the Government of Ghana has put in place arrangements for the construction of a multi-purpose dam on the White Volta at Pwalugu in the Upper East region. On the estimated completion of the project in 2019, the dam would generate electricity and irrigate over 100,000 hectares of land to the benefit of people in the Upper East and Northern Regions of the country.  Hon. INTERNAL AUDITORS CAUTIONED AGAINST CONDONNING FINANCIAL MISMANAGEMNET BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM AG.PRO-UE/RCC The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Owen Woyongo has made a passionate appeal to internal auditors of the Ghana Education Service [GES] to eschew the tendency of condoning and conniving with management to dissipate public funds stressing that as “ Internal Auditors, you must always ensure that government has value for money”. The Regional Minister made the appeal in a keynote address at the 8 th Annual Conference of the internal auditors association of the GES held at Bolgatanga in the Upper East region of Ghana. He further admonished the internal auditors to promote the ethical culture of the auditing profession by ensuring integrity, objectivity, confidentiality and showing competence in the execution of their mandate as auditors. PRESS RELEASE SIX DISTRICTS IN UPPER EAST TO BENEFIT FROM JAPANESE GRANT Six of the nine districts in the Upper East Region will from September this year start benefiting from a three million US dollars grant from the Japanese Social Development Fund (JSDF). The grant which will be piloted over a three year period as an income generation intervention will complement the World Bank’s funded Ghana Social Opportunities Project (GSOP). The Bongo District, Talensi-Nabdam, Builsa, Bawku West, Kassena-Nankana West and Garu-Tempane districts have been selected to benefit from the JSDF whose funds will go directly to support the poorest of the poor in the respective districts. TWO NEW VACCINES FOR CHILD HEALTH LAUNCHED IN UE June 01, 2012 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Upper East Regional Health Directorate has successfully launched two new vaccines in addition to other numerous initiatives all geared towards reducing under-five child morbidity and mortality in the region. The two new vaccines launched under the theme: “Two More Vaccines for Healthier, Happier Children” are pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines. Upper East Regional minister Mr. Mark Owen Woyongo who did the launch said as Ghana strives to achieve the Millennium Development Goals four and five by the 2015 deadline, a lot more resources must be channeled into the prevention of maternal and infant deaths. He observed that as per a World Health Organisation report, Ghana has made significant progress in immunisation coverage from an initial 4% with only one antigen in 1985 to a national coverage of 90% with nine antigens in 2012.
