Where I worry much and habour grave concerns for victims of human rights abuse is the scenario where persons are coerced into confinement as a result of outmoded and barbaric traditional norms and beliefs. The contractor's men on site doing what needs to be done GAMBAGA COMMUNITY GETS A NEW DAM BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM January 20, 2009 ISD, GAMBAGA A new dam to help meet the water needs of the people of Gambaga is under construction near Zimasa at Gambaga in the East Mamprusi district. The dam covers a land area of about six acres. The construction of the dam is a result of a compensation agreement reached between opinion leaders of the community and A&N Ghanem Limited, a contractor working on 10 kilometers of the Walewale- Gambaga road. Whilst the dam will serve as a source of drinking water to livestock and also aid dry season farming, the District Water and Sanitation Development Board is expected to mount its water treatment machines there to increase supply of potable drinking water to households in the district. EMDA HOLDS THIRD ORDINARY SESSION December 19,2008 By Peter Atogewe Wedam ISD, Gambaga The East Mamprusi District Assembly, EMDA is to vote an amount of GH ¢50,000.00 from its common fund for use by the health assistance training school which is about to start academic work soon in the district. The money, according to the DCE of the assembly, Honorable Peter Wuni represents the assembly’s contribution towards the smooth operation of the school whilst it waits for proper funding from the Ministry of Health. Honorable Wuni who was delivering his address at the assembly’s third ordinary session for the year held at Gambaga also disclosed that the EMDA has reached a tenancy agreement with a landlord at Langbensi to procure accommodation to house police officers who will be posted to man the Langbensi police station. WELL DONE TECHNOSERVE December 19, 2008 By: Peter Atogewe Wedam, Information Services Department – Gambaga Close to 15 communities across the length and breadth of the East Mamprusi district have benefitted from diverse intervention programmes from TECHNOSERVE, an American non-governmental organistion. These interventions ranged from agric input support including provision of fertilizers, improved seeds and land preparation, and in most cases, drilling of boreholes to provide potable drinking water to needy and deprived communities. A Programmes Advisor of TECHNOSERVE, Mr. George Bamombe in an interview with the Information Services Department at Gambaga disclosed that the NGO began its intervention projects in the district in March 2006 and will be working to provide business solutions to rural poverty over a five year period. Shareholders of the East Mamprusi Community Bank listening keenly to how their monies have been used EAST MAMPRUSI COMMUNITY BANK HOLDS 4TH AGM NOVEMBER 29, 2008 BY: PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD, EAST MAMPRUSI DISTRICT COPIED TO G N A [Gambaga[N/R], November 29, GNA] - The East Mamprusi Community Bank, EASMACOM with its headquarters at Gambaga in the East Mamprusi district, recorded GH ¢1,216,105 in total deposits by December 31, 2007 as against GH ¢949,926 in 2006 indicating a 28 per cent increment. The bank’s total assets also appreciated from GH ¢1,624,580 in 2006 to an impressive GH ¢2,254,400 in 2007 showing an increase of 39 per cent. The Board Chairman of the EASMACOM bank, Mr. Dan Kolbila disclosed these at the bank’s fourth annual general meeting[AGM] held at Gambaga themed “Micro finance: tool for growth and poverty reduction”. MTN IS NOT TAKING US EVERYWHERE WE GO I have heard on radio and from friends and also read from the newspapers especially Daily Graphic about how MTN, a mobile service operator has been disappointing its customers within the last few weeks in the areas of prompt connectivity, the MTN zone and other stuffs. About the MTN’s free night calls facility, the least said about it the better. I am a journalist with the Information Services Department in the East Mamprusi district, Gambaga and a sensitive customer of MTN. I can confidently report without doubt that MTN’s network in this district has almost been off from the first week of November to date and it seems nothing is being done about it. We people in Gambaga and other villages of East Mamprusi can hardly make and or receive calls to or from other networks.
