NDC EXECUTIVES IN UPPER EAST DECLARE SUPPORT FOR MILLS April 15, 2011 BY P. ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The regional party executives and constituency executives from all 13 constituencies of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC] in the Upper East region have declared their unflinching support for President John Evans Atta Mills as the best candidate to lead the party to lead to victory in the 2012 general elections. The party executives made the declaration during an expanded executive meeting held at Bolgatanga to appraise the president’s recent duty tour of the region during which he cut sod for the commencement of several projects. FIVE BLOCKS RENOVATED FOR NAVASCO March 21, 2011 BY P. ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL A total of five blocks including two boys’ dormitories, a classroom block, a girls’ dormitory and an administration block have been renovated and handed over to the authorities of the Navrongo Senior High School [NAVASCO] in the Kassena-Nankana East district of the Upper East region. The renovation works were undertaken to reverse the deplorable state of the various structures and also to make academic work and life on campus more comfortable for staff and students. The major works included installation of showers, fitting of tiles for bath houses and dormitories, new ceilings among others. Messrs Zamanoma Enterprise, Diande Enterprise, Eborics Company Ltd. And Gakoka Enterprise worked on the various projects and all of them finished on schedule to the admiration of the regional minster and the school authorities. 53 ASSEMBLY PERSONS SWORN INTO BMA March 15, 2011 BY P. ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly in the Upper East region has now been given full powers and legal backing to function effectively with the inauguration of its new crop of assembly persons. In all, 53 assembly men and women from the last district level elections were sworn into the assembly. These included 37 elected members, 16 appointed members and the two automatic members comprising the municipal chief executive and the Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga Central constituency. A Member of the Council of State, Hon. This year’s event dubbed the “inter-schools Milo and Akomisnaba Memorial Championship” is featuring about 20 second cycle institutions across the region and is being sponsored by Nestle Ghana Limited. CHIEFS SEEK SOLUTIONS TO BUSFIRES IN UPPER EAST February 16, 2011 BY P. ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The indiscriminate burning of bushes and forests generally termed bushfires, has become a threat to the sustainable use of natural resources in Ghana. The long-term negative impact of bushfires on people especially those in the three northern regions include loss of soil fertility, land degradation, loss of human lives and property among others. The Minister for Environment, Science and Technology Hon. Sherry Ayittey made these observations in a keynote address at a day’s seminar held in Bolgatanga for chiefs and land owners to discuss and seek solutions to the menace of bushfires. HONOURABLE TIA BUILDS SCHOOL FOR CONSTITUENTS February 07, 2011 BY P. ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Minister for Information, Honourable John Tia Akologu has handed over a vocational school block to the Talensi-Nabdam district directorate of education for the commencement of academic work. The school, situated at Duusi in the Nabdam constituency was constructed at the cost of 140,000.oo Ghana Cedis. At a ceremony to hand over the school, Hon. Tia Akologu said he had to pull resources from the Ghana Education Trust Fund and his share of the Common Fund to execute the project for his constituents. He said the Duusi Vocational Institute will provide an alternative source of livelihood to many rural students in the Talensi constituency and elsewhere who often fail to make excellent grades at the basic education and senior high school examinations. ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD-BOLGATANGA MUNICIPAL The Deputy Upper East regional minister, Mrs. Lucy Awuni has stated that as people and countries move towards a more integrated and interdependent global economy, the world is governed by bilingualism and Ghana cannot afford to be left behind in the study of international languages. The Deputy Regional Minister made this statement in a speech to open the regional celebration of French language awareness day at Bolgatanga under the theme: “connect with the world, learn French”. Students studying French at various basic, junior and senior high schools and their teachers attended the programme.
