NHIS PAYS CLAIMS June 23, 2009 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM, ISD GAMBAGA Gambaga[N/R], June 23, GNA - The East Mamprusi District Office of the National Health Insurance Scheme has paid all outstanding claims submitted by its service providers for the first quarter of 2009. The Manager of the scheme Mr. Sulemana Elijah Abdulai who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Gambaga said 293,454.81 Ghanaian Cedis was disbursed to all eight service providers covering January to April 2009. He said as at the close of last year, the scheme had registered 75,843 members representing 53.2 per cent of the district’s population of 142,455. During the same period, 16,351 members renewed their membership and this reflects 33.9 per cent of the population. Mr. Sulemana noted that from January to May 2009, 7,013 new clients have been added to the scheme’s membership indicating 58.1 per cent of residents in the East Mamprusi District. According to Mr.

GNAT HOLDS DELEGATES CONFERENCE BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM. ISD GAMBAGA June 12, 2009 The East Mamprusi and Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District branches of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT have held their third quadrennial delegates confab at Gambaga in the Northern Region. The confab which was themed “better schools today, better society tomorrow” gave GNAT members in the two districts the opportunity to share their concerns with their executives and district directors of education from both districts. Mr. Haruna Laari, East Mamprusi District GNAT Chairman who delivered a speech to welcome members stated that teachers are key players in all aspects of Ghana’s development since they nurture all other professionals throughout various educational structures. The GNAT Chairman admitted that though the association faced some challenges during the past years, it was also able to chalk some achievements including articulating members’ concerns and seeking redress for them. PARED HELPS WITH FOOD

PARED HELPS WITH FOOD JUNE 19, 2009 BY PETER ATOGEWE WEDAM ISD,GAMBAGA Partners in Rural Empowerment and Development PARED, a Nalerigu based non-governmental organization has over the past few months distributed food items to members of poverty endemic villages in the East Mamprusi District. The co-ordinator of PARED Mr. Assani S. Tampuri disclosed in an interview with the ISD that in May, 2009 for instance, the NGO in collaboration with Care International and the World Food Programme distributed 1,483 bags of maize, 306 cartons of oil and 74 bags of salt to selected members of villages earmarked as poverty endemic. Mr. Tampuri revealed that a total of 1,164 beneficiaries including 598 females received various food rations in five communities including Kulgona, Nanori, Poringong, Gandantinga and Charifoyiri. The beneficiaries were selected in consultation with assembly persons, Chiefs and other opinion leaders who lived in the communities. A
