Mr. Mark Owen Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister who received the donation on behalf of the planning committee thanked SIC for the gesture and called on other corporate entities to assist in the anniversary celebrations. He said the Upper East region is engulfed in conflict as some media houses have tried to portray in their reports with reference to the Bawku conflict.

The regional minister pledged to use the anniversary to highlight positive happenings in the region including investment and tourism potentials in several parts of the region.

In a related development, the Kassena Development League headquartered in the United Kingdom has presented six bales of treated mosquito nets to the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital to be used by pregnant women and children so as to reduce malaria infections and deaths due to malaria. The nets were valued at 3000 Ghana Cedis.

The Youth Organiser of the Kassena Development League, Mr. Eric Kasise Pwamang who was led by Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Woyongo said the presentation means that the organisation has not forgotten of Kassenas back home.

Mr. Kasise Pwamang said apart from donating periodically in support of development back home, the Kassena Development League which has been in existence for 10 years now also assists Kassenas in the UK and fights for their welfare. Three years ago was the last time the league made a similar donation to the hospital.

The medical superintendent of the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital, Dr. Abdulai Adams Forgor received the items and thanked the league. He said the hospital faces many other challenges including lack of potable water, irregular electricity and lack of intensive care equipment.
