The Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly has cut sod for the construction of projects across the health, education and water sectors in the district. The projects, all valued at 3,589,504.23 Ghana Cedis are for the benefit of the Boania community, the Paga Senior High School and the Mirigu community among others. Boania for instance, gets a modern 3-Unit classroom block with ancillary facilities including a staff common room, headteacher’s office, store, 4-seater toilet facility and a changing room for girls to assist in fixing themselves during their monthly flows. This project is costed at 1,392,245.14 Ghana Cedis and is scheduled to be completed within six calendar months.
The District Chief Executive [DCE], Hon. Stephen Aeke Akurugo and the Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Hon. Nikyema Billa Alamzy, jointly performed the sod cutting ceremonies at three different project sites this Monday afternoon. They urged the community to offer every assistance to the contractor to enable the smooth flow of works and timely completion of the project. The DCE noted that the John Mahama-Government is a listening-government and thus having heard the cries of the Boania community in the area of education, quickly mobilized resources and consequently awarded the classroom block project to ensure school children in the area have a modern and conducive environment for academic work. The MP for his part, pledged to continue exploring all avenues to ensure that, he is able to secure more development for all communities within the constituency while urging the people to be patient and await their turn.
Both the MP and the DCE appealed to community members to ensure that no petty land ownership issues crop up in the execution of the project as that could jeopardize the works and draw back the completion of the project. They also expressed hope that the school holds great potentials and could produce productive citizens for the country’s development agenda.
At the second stop in the day at the Paga Senior High School, Hon. Akurugo disclosed that, the school together with its sister Senior Highs at Chiana and in Sirigu as well as the Zenga community, will each receive a solar mechanized water system with the capacity to supply quality water to between 1,500 and 2,000 people. These projects together cost 1,260,508.20 Ghana Cedis.
Meanwhile on the health front marking the last activity in the day which went into the night, the sod was cut for a 936,750.89 Ghana Cedi maternity block with components such as labour room, delivery room, a lie-in room, a midwife’s bedroom, a kitchen and a waiting arena among others. The project is being constructed at the Mirigu CHPS Compound to augment infrastructure at the facility. The contract details revealed that upon completion, the contractor is mandated to furnish the block with the requisite furniture and to supply it with some essential equipment as well. This facility the health authorities disclosed, performs not less than 100 deliveries per annum and are thus happy this addition will impact their work positively.
